OLG’s Gone To The Dogs!
Friday 18th July is surely a date for the diary, as that’s the date for the O’Loughlin Gaels annual race night. One ten Euro ticket will get you admission to Kilkenny Dog Track as well as your own race card for the night. The first race is at 8:00 and if the weather is anything like last year; there promises to be another bumper crowd in St James’s Park. Ticket sellers have been out and about in the last week or two. Their mission: to visit every house in the Parish. We would appreciate it if you could support this great cause. Remember – the monies collected will go towards the day to day running of what is a very large sporting operation in your city. Whether it be the training and kitting out of juveniles for the Continent or preparing our seniors for a run in this year’s league / championship – the costs are prohibitive and so, we need your help. Please answer the call by looking out for our ticket sellers as they go door to door over the coming evenings.
U14’s Tournament
A unique tournament was held in St John’s Park on Saturday last. Its aim was simple – to develop up and coming U14 players from across the county, by providing them with as much game time as possible – in a competitive tournament environment. The tourney was the brainchild of OLG stalwart - John Sheridan. This reporter managed to catch up with John, while he was grabbing a quick cuppa in the splendid new clubhouse kitchen. John explained that the club was hosting a twelve club tournament over two successive Saturdays. He was quick to point out also that he had been given great help from the organizing committee – Niall Bergin, Eoghan Croghan, Ben Fogarty, Brendan O’Leary, and Donal Higgins. Twelve clubs from both city and county have entered the tourney. John explained that what was unique about this competition was that the teams would be made up of players who ply their trades in Roinns B & C. The twelve clubs are as follows: St Martin’s (Muckalee), James Stephens, Emeralds (Urlingford), Kilmacow, Rower-Inistioge, Conahy Shamrocks, Windgap, Dicksboro, Tullogher-Rosbercon, Barrow Rangers (Paulstown), Carrickshock and of course....O’Loughlin Gaels. This reporter attended several of Saturday’s games – the pick of them being a tight tussle between the Continent and Windgap. All the skills were on display in this enthralling encounter - tight defending, hard tackling, long range points and spectacular goals. Each of the twelve teams played two group games last Saturday. The beauty of this tournament is that they will each contest a further two games (semi-final & final) next Saturday, regardless of their group standings from the previous week. O’Loughlin Gaels would like to sincerely thank all those involved in putting this tournament together and would also like to wish each team the very best on Saturday July 12th in St John’s Park.

The next programme is starting on the 14th July for 10 weeks in the Day Care Centre form 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Our aims: To educate families about addiction and addictive behaviour. Support families in their own recovery. Break the cycle of addiction by helping the family member to care for themselves. Help the family member to emerge from their powerlessness with strength and courage. Raise awareness about the impact of addiction on families.
Club Lotto
There was no winner of this week’s club lotto. The numbers drawn were: 12, 18, 25, 26 and the bonus number was 11. To be in with a chance to win €20,000 – please buy a ticket form any of our registered sellers or call to the clubhouse bar.
Road Hurling’s Coming to Johnswell!
Road Hurling will take place on Saturday 19th July at 6.30pm in Johnswell Village. Teams of 3 will cost €30 per team. Under 14’s will get a discounted rate of €15 per team. Registration on the day from 5.30pm onwards. Senior County hurlers Brian Hogan and Tommy Walsh will be in attendance. For more info, please contact Ann Brennan on 086/3481141.
Leinster Champions
O'Loughlin Gaels would like to congratulate four of our finest, who are all Leinster Hurling Champions for 2014. Ross Butler & Gary Bryan were part of the victorious minor team that defeated the Dubs in a comprehensive display today. Ross commanded the forty well and also scored a great point in the first half of the minor final. Brian Hogan & Mark Kelly each played major roles in this year's successful senior campaign. Brian commanded the half back line with authority and seemed to say "this far and no further" to the Dubs forward line. One of the scores of the game was a combo move: a Tyrrell / Hogan / Hogan / Power play of a point. To cap it all off, Brian then scored what can only be described as an "Ethiad Skyline" of a point in the thirty-second minute of the first half - that surely was the beginning of the end for the Dubs.
