MINORS ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS
Click for Match Report
It was some week for our minor panel. Last Wednesday evening the enthralled a large attendance at MW Hire Dunmore as they dispensed of the Graigue-Ballycallan challenge with a scintillating performance in the semi –final (O’Loughlin Gaels 3-19 to 1-8 Graigue/Ballycallan). By the following Sunday afternoon the lads were crowned Minor County Champions. 3-15 from play the previous outing should have sent shudders down the spine of the final’s opposition but instead true to form the Village took the game to the O’Loughlin’s lads. At half time the James Stephens had a one point lead but O’Loughlin’s knew they were in a game …and knew they had to up theirs. Two first half goals, Ben Maher (free) and Jordan Molloy, had kept the lads in touch…and in their own heads in touch wasn’t enough! The second half saw an explosive performance from a determined group of lads that only had one focus…to take back that cup to St. John’s Park. Within a minute of the restart Eoin Wall (1-4 from play) had netted the team’s third goal to get in front and there was no looking back. Ben Maher, Dacel Fwamba and Luke Hogan followed up quickly with a point each as the Loughs took total control. Barry Lawlor was immense at full back and played with a conviction that drove the team on. Oisin Murphy blocked an attack on the O’Loughlin Gael’s goal on 50mins and all of Nowlan Park knew that there was no way these lads were going to relinquish this lead. In their heads these lads put their names on this cup last Spring and they were here to claim their reward.
This is a great team. Their determination and willingness to work hard has been instilled in their game by network of support that includes management and family. Their bond is special. They’ve suffered heart break close hand and know how to hold and support each other and bring that energy to every game, and every occasion. Manager Brian Dowling and selectors Paul Phelan, Paul Cleere, Conor Bergin and James O’Keefe, all are afforded great credit for nurturing this bond. They’ve mentored a great team and drawn the very best from them. O’Loughlin Gaels GAA would like to thank the mentors, the families, sponsors MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre and supporters for contributing to this success. Well done all …lovely hurling.
