SUMMER CAMP
If you’re wondering what all that racquet is coming from St. John’s Park it’s the sound of almost 240 young boys and girls enjoying themselves. It’s the noise of Summer Camp 2018 and it’s set to continue until August the 11th. Always a great two weeks hats off to the organisers .
PLAYER NEWS
It’s a busy part of the year for inter-county teams and O’Loughlin Gaels ans St. John’s parish have been well represented. Conor Kelly, David Fogarty, Jamie Young and Niall Higgins are all involved in the Kilkenny Minor Team heading to the All-Ireland in August along with selector Niall Bergin. The camogie club was represented at u15 by Eva Collins, Taylor Brett and Abigail Egan in the successful u15 All-Ireland winning team at the weekend of which Mark Brett was a co-selector. Well done also to Danielle Quigley who wore the Black and amber with the Kilkenny Camogie u16 squad at the weekend also. And finally referee Sean Cleere continues representing our club with distinction as he formed part of the officiating teams during the weekends All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Finals. Well done all.
TEAM NEWS
Rsults:
St. Canice's Credit Union County Hurling League Division 1
James Stephens 0-15 to 1:23 O'Loughlin Gaels GAA
A first half Ferghal Brennan goal gave the boys the platform to build on and finish out deserving winners at Larchfield. It was a good performance with Danny Loughnane, Ronan Buckley and Eoin O'Shea putting in fine contributions to tonight's team effort.
The results weren't as good from the other two fixtures that evening against the same opposition however. The u15s out in a fine effort an the Kells Rd. But unfortunately came up short and were defeated on a scoreline of
James Stephens 2:18 to 3:4 O'Loughlin Gaels
The u13b's disappointingly couldn't get to the pace of their game at St. John's Park and left too much to do after an indifferent first half performance. Although they outscored the visitors in the second half the final score was a disappointing :
O'Loughlin Gaels 3:3 to 5:14 James Stephens.
Result: Junior B Hurling League
Johns Lockes 0-11 to 2-17 O'Loughlin Gaels
A much improved performance in the second half if this contest insured maximum points for the city side this afternoon. A goal in each half by full forward Michael Henebry (2-0) and some flawless free taking by Odhrán Lawlor (0-11, 10 frees) accounted for the bulk of the scores but the fitter younger team was ultimately the difference between these sides. Oisin Murphy (0-3) showed no signs of tiredness after last evenings exploits added 3 points if his own, while Tervine Wallace (0-1) relentless engine earned a fine score from play midway through the 2nd half. Jamie Ryan and Danny Bolger making up the score tally with a point each.
A well worked win...with a fine blend of player's. Well done all...lovely hurling
Result: J. J. Kavanagh and Sons J.H.L.
O'Loughlin Gaels 3-23 to 0-9 St Patrick's Ballyragget
A fine first half performance with Billy Leydon, Eoin O'Shea and Ferghal Brennan doing untold damage. A fine individual score by young corner back Oisín Murphy during this same period drew applause from spectators at St. Johns Park . The 2nd half was a much more pedantic game with the Gaels doing enough to maintain their dominance. A good win..and a job very well done
Result: u13 Roinn A Hurling League
Young Ireland's 1-5 to 5-7 O'Loughlin Gael
The u13s continue to build well and notch up another good result in the final game of the Roinn A league. The boys next outing is a qtr final match v Clara at the LIsdowney 7’s on Saturday morning . All support is greatly appreciated.
Next week sees the Championships get underway for our u15s and the Minor Team also returns to action in the League. Please support all our teams.
