SUMMER CAMP
If you’re wondering what all that racquet is coming from St. John’s Park it’s the sound of almost 240 young boys and girls enjoying themselves.  It’s the noise of Summer Camp 2018 and it’s set to continue until August the 11th.  Always a great two weeks hats off to the organisers .

PLAYER NEWS

It’s a busy part of the year for inter-county teams and O’Loughlin Gaels ans St. John’s parish have been well represented.  Conor Kelly, David Fogarty, Jamie Young and Niall Higgins are all involved in the Kilkenny Minor Team heading to the All-Ireland in August along with selector Niall Bergin. The camogie club was represented at u15 by  Eva Collins, Taylor Brett and Abigail Egan in the successful u15 All-Ireland winning team at the weekend of which Mark Brett was a co-selector.  Well done also to Danielle Quigley who wore the Black and amber with the Kilkenny Camogie u16 squad at the weekend also. And finally referee Sean Cleere continues representing our club with distinction as he formed part of the officiating teams during the weekends All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Finals.  Well done all.

TEAM NEWS
Rsults:
St. Canice's Credit Union County Hurling League Division 1
James Stephens 0-15 to 1:23 O'Loughlin Gaels GAA
A first half Ferghal Brennan goal gave the boys the platform to build on and finish out deserving winners at Larchfield. It was a good performance with Danny Loughnane, Ronan Buckley and Eoin O'Shea putting in fine contributions to tonight's team effort.

The results weren't as good from the other two fixtures that evening against the same opposition however. The u15s out in a fine effort an the Kells Rd. But unfortunately came up short and were defeated on a scoreline of
James Stephens 2:18 to 3:4 O'Loughlin Gaels
The u13b's disappointingly couldn't get to the pace of their game at St. John's Park and left too much to do after an indifferent first half performance. Although they outscored the visitors in the second half the final score was a disappointing :
O'Loughlin Gaels 3:3 to 5:14 James Stephens.

Result: Junior B Hurling League
Johns Lockes 0-11 to 2-17 O'Loughlin Gaels
A much improved performance in the second half if this contest insured maximum points for the city side this afternoon. A goal in each half by full forward Michael Henebry (2-0) and some flawless free taking by Odhrán Lawlor (0-11, 10 frees) accounted for the bulk of the scores but the fitter younger team was ultimately the difference between these sides. Oisin Murphy (0-3) showed no signs of tiredness after last evenings exploits added 3 points if his own, while Tervine Wallace (0-1) relentless engine earned a fine score from play midway through the 2nd half. Jamie Ryan and Danny Bolger making up the score tally with a point each.
A well worked win...with a fine blend of player's. Well done all...lovely hurling

Result: J. J. Kavanagh and Sons J.H.L.
O'Loughlin Gaels 3-23 to 0-9 St Patrick's Ballyragget
A fine first half performance with Billy Leydon, Eoin O'Shea and Ferghal Brennan doing untold damage. A fine individual score by young corner back Oisín Murphy during this same period drew applause from spectators at St. Johns Park . The 2nd half was a much more pedantic game with the Gaels doing enough to maintain their dominance. A good win..and a job very well done

Result: u13 Roinn A Hurling League
Young Ireland's 1-5 to 5-7 O'Loughlin Gael
The u13s continue to build well and notch up another good result in the final game of the Roinn A league.  The boys next outing is a qtr final match v Clara at the LIsdowney 7’s on Saturday morning . All support is greatly appreciated.

Next week sees the Championships get underway for our u15s and the Minor Team also returns to action in the League.  Please support all our teams.

PLAYER NEWS

Best of luck to O’Loughlin Gaels players Conor Kelly, Jamie Young, David Fogarty and Niall Higgins who all are part of the Kilkenny Minor hurling panel getting ready for Sundays All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final at Croke Park.  Always a very proud day for our club to see O’Loughlin Gaels Players represented on big days like this. A good performance over Limerick last weekend earned them their chance and the boys will relish taking it.  Well done boys and good luck too to Niall Bergin also, a selector on the management team.

TEAM NEWS
Results:
Result: St. Canice's Credit Union County Hurling League Division 1
O'Loughlin Gaels 1-16 to 1-18 Ballyhale Shamrocks

It was a hard night for O'Loughlin Gaels teams with our Seniors exiting the Football Championship at the semi-final stage against a strong Mullinavat. 3-13 to 1-3 was the final score in Ballyhale putting to bed this year's Championship run.

The u19B's were narrowly defeated by James Stephens at Larchfield after another tight game between these sides. The lads took a long time to get going giving the home side a head start that they were almost forced to relinquish by a second half resurgent Gaels. The boys would rue those missed opportunities and final decisions that could have yielded scores to win however and unfortunately the final whistle came all too early ending not only the game but the season for this grade.....something the county board might look to amend for 2019.
Hard luck to all involved.
Result: J.
A good win..and a job very well done. Lovely hurling.

A well worked win...with a fine blend of player's. Well done all

Result: u13 A Hurling League
Dicksboro 0-6 to O'Loughlin Gaels 4-11
Another great result from.accross town as our u13s left Palmerstown with more league points after a strong team performance. Workrate and discipline the key factors in achieving this win was certainly helped by a first half hatrick of goals from full forward Kevin Waldron. A fourth goal sealed the deal.midway through the 2nd half when Ruarc Sweeney netted ..but it was the workrate and spread if scorers really impressed management tonight. New players stood up when needed showing that this panel are developing all the time. Well done all...lovely hurling

Result: u13 Bs Hurling League
O'Loughlin Gaels 6-5 to 1-12 Carrickshock.
A great result at home for our u13b's has added to a good run of wins for our u13 teams. The boys got off to s flying start thanks to an early Darragh Powell goal..Darragh would have got his 2nd goal before half time helping the Gaels to a 2-4 to 0-6 lead. The boys were put to the pin of their collar in the 2nd half as Carrickshock registered 1-4 within 10mins of the restart to come within a point. Josh Hynes latched on to a good move however and powered his way towards the visitors goal and finishing it to the net thereby re-energising a physical forward unit. A hatrick of goals by Conor Daly followed and the Gaels were home and dry.
Goals win games for sure but if anything the heroics of goalkeeper Zac Evans during that sustained period of Carrickshock pressure was arguably the winning if this game. If goals serve to energise teams...saves serve to deflate teams also. Brilliant performance by all the lads including the replacements who all got their opportunity.
Good work too by Conor Murphy, Evan Maher, Kieran Delaney and Owen McKenna all.had telling contributions to the game

Result: U13 Roinn A Hurling League
Dicksboro 1-7 to 3-11 O'Loughlin Gaels
A well organised first half performance saw the visiting young 'Gaels put a very healthy 2-9 to 0-1 score up by the break. Orestas Balsys again proving his worth scoring the 1st of his brace of goals during that period. Eoghan O'Brien had 1-1 on the scoreboard within a few minutes putting the lads in the right frame of mind. Man of the match Aaron Maher alongside midfielder Luke Hanrahan steered this team to a winning performance. And the defensive unit of Jack Johnson, Brandon wall and Eoghan Bennett kept the assaults on Michael Lambert's goal to a minimum. The second half brought an expected backlash from the home side that unsettled the Gaels. A bit if pressure was absorbed however and these league points came away with the Gaels. Well done to all the boys. Lovely hurling

All County Jnr Hurling Final:
O'Loughlin Gaels 2-20 to 1:17 Piltown
Goals from Evan Walsh and Ferghal Brennan proved decisive in this win at Thomastown. Ferghal Brennans strike 10mins from time after a well worked move finally allowed the Gaels to settle and finish out 6 point winners and collect this trophy for the first time in 4 years. With such a strong panel available there were plenty of options available to management ultimately rewarding Conor Bergin the honour of accepting the trophy from competition sponsor Paul Kavanagh of JJ Kavanagh & Sons.

Well done all.

O'Loughlin Gaels 2-20 to 1:17 Piltown

Result: J. J. Kavanagh and Sons Junior B Hurling League
St Martins 2:17 to 1:24 O'Loughlin Gaels.
Well done to the junior B team after a good win in Coon against a previously undefeated St. Martin's. A good physical game this was a good test of the lads metal that saw them get a hold of the game in the final quarter and finish out 4 point winners. Well done all.

Result: Permanent TSB Under 19 Hurling D Group D
O'Loughlin Gaels 2-15 to 2-15 James Stephens.
It was a fair auld tussle in the heat of St. John's Park this afternoon with both teams taking their turns to dominate. O'Loughlins had the better if the exchanges in the first 30mins and led at the break 1-11 to 0-8 but the visitors came out in the second have in blustering form and working up a 4 point lead at one point. However the Gaels returned another spell of good form managing to level the game by full time. Looking forward to the 2nd leg of this fixture to be scheduled in a week or two. Well done all

Result: u13 A Hurling League.
Tullogher-Rosbercon 2-4 to 3-3 O'Loughlin Gaels
Another great win for these young lads that was hard fought and were fully deserving of these league points. Goals from.Fionn Lawlor Eoghan O'Brien and Joe Bolger were added to with a brace of points from O'Brien and a fine pointed effort from.the wing by Orestas Balsys. The defensive effort by the back six supported by a strong mid field pairing was without doubt the winning of this game however. Well done boys...lovely hurling.

Result: u13 C League.
Cloneen 1:10 to 2: 2 O'Loughlin Gaels
A very disappointing result considering the effort put in tonight by this group of players. Goals from Conor Daly and Stephen Butler were rewards for their good work. The game was there for the taking and on another day more scores should have come. A great defensive effort was led by Joe Bolger who put in a second consecutive nights hurling for his club. Well done to Jack Johnson who showed his metal and along with s few others like Conor Murphy, Stephen Butler, Zac Evans who also showed that honest endeavour does get noticed. Keep working hard and even harder and good results will.come. Well done boys.

PLAYER NEWS

Another big day was put in by Paddy Deegan in a kilkenny jersey.. Paddy played an heroic role in Sunday’s drawn Leinster Final watched on proudly by an army of young 'Gaels who seemed to take over all of the lower tier of the Davin Stand. We look forward now to Sunday and encourage all again to support the Kilkenny Team in the Replay at Semple Stadium.
Hard luck to Conor, Jamie and David whose Kilkenny Minor team came out the wrong side of a pulsating Minor Leinster Hurling Final at Portlaoise. The boys will be back with the young cats again shortly as they proceed in the all-Ireland series..and they’ll have a lot to contribute to that campaign. Well done boys.

Duggan Steel Under-13 Roinn C Hurling League Group A
Tullaroan 4-8 to 2:6 O'Loughlin Gaels
A crowded goal line stifled numerous assaults at the Tullaroan goal in the final 15 mins of this game preventing the Gaels from coming away with a win in round 3 of this league. A great effort and great progress been made with this group. Well done to all involved.

Please support our Junior Team who are scheduled to play against Piltown on Thursday evening at Thomastown in the All County Junior League Final. It promises to be a cracker.
