Senior Hurlers league
It was a good start for the Senior Hurling team at the weekend as they overcame the challenge of understrength Carrickshock team at Bennettsbridge in the first round of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Hurling League. The St. Johns side was by far the dominant team but still took until mid-way through the second half to but distance between the sides. The management team will be happy with what they saw and will also have enough to ponder in their preparations to retain the County League Title the club won in 2015. But with a decent performance like we saw last Saturday the St. Johns support will be satisfied as we head into the Summer months. Minor
Hard luck on our minors who were narrowly defeated by city neighbour James Stephens last Thursday evening. It was a game of fine lines and they game could easily have swung in the St. Johns lads favour but for a few missed chances. Its early days yet and the lads will learn a lot from this game and take the opportunity at training sharpen their game.
U6s take spoils at Palmerstown
The u16 hurler came away from Palmerstown last week with a win over a very tough opposition. The lads will be thrilled with the good start to their league campaign after training hard for the last few weeks. The u16b team had their match against Carrickshock postponed but are chomping at the bit to get going too. The u16 leagues continue this week and next so keep an eye on the clubs facebook page for updates and the County Board Fixtures page.
U14s make Football Semi-final.
The u14 team reached the semi-final of the Roinn A Football Championship by beating Mooncoin in what could only be described as a ‘Goalfest’. The home team scored 7-10 while the St. Johns side knocked up a score of 10-7 keeping the referee on his toes and the supporters rattling their brains for numbers as they game progressed. When all the cogs grinded to a halt it was clear that ou boys had advanced to the next stage of the competition. Well done lads and the best of luck.
Juvenile ‘Gaels
The juvenile teams continue training and organising games for teams from u6 to u12. Lots of activity about on Thursday evenings 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am as these teams train hard and play hard filling the St. Johns Park with the sounds ash clashing. After having Kilmacud Crokes visit lat week, this week saw Ballycallan GAA pay a visit on Sunday morning for some hotly contested games – much to delight of parents and hurling enthusiasts. On Tuesday last April 7th our teams took part in the County Board Go Games Blitz in Kells Road where ll the players saw plenty of action and game team in both hurling and football. As always the young Gaels are well looked after and get every opportunity to develop their skills. Well done to all our trained coaches and keep up the good work. Training for Juveniles u6 to u12s continues each Sunday Mornings at 10.30am and each Thursday evening at 6.30pm. Newcomers are always welcome.

Camogie News
Good news for the u14 girls who had their first game of the year, and a first win of the year, against Danesfort on Thursday evening. The girls deservedly were thrilled with their win as they have worked very hard under the guidance of Tadgh Crowley and co since February. Keep up the hard work girls and the wins will keep coming. Camogie training for the young girls from u6 through to u12 continues on Saturday mornings at 10.30am. New members are always welcome and there’s an opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee with the other parents while the girls are put through their paces by the coaches. So bring your little girl and start a whole new social circle at O’Loughlin Gaels Camogie, Saturday at 10.30am.
Congratulations to u14 camogie players Siun Crowley, Nyah Egan, Edel Mulholland and Leah Broaders who played on the u14 Kilkenny Black, White and Amber Teams in the u14 Inter-County Camogie blitz on Saturday. Well done girls.
Allianz League Semi Finals
It will be a big day in Kilkenny on Sunday as the National Hurling League semi-finals takes place in Nowlan Park next Sunday. St. Johns Park will be opened up for parking on the day so if you have friends visiting for the games or indeed you’re going yourselves, you couldn’t find a better and more convenient place to park up, hang around for a chat to discuss the game before and after in the club bar.
Grounds Committee
Well done to the O’Loughlin Gaels grounds committee headed by Mick Nolan who had St. Johns park looking well on Saturday evening for the Intermediate League tie between Conahy GAA and Tullaroan GAA. The grass was mowed to the recommended length, the goal mouths in perfect condition and all the white wash was lined in plenty of time for the 6pm throw in. There was plenty of volunteers on hand too to man the carpark and to make sure that visiting supporters got in and out safely and quickly from the St. Johns Park venue. It was a well organised operation and we look forward to seeing more big games held there during the summer months. Well done to everybody who put a big effort into organising beforehand to ensure the evening seemed effortless.
