ST. PATRICKS DAY

Thanks to all those involved involved in the Club’s entry into this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade…arguably one of the best ever. (That’s both the parade itself and the Club’s entry!!).  This year the young players from the Gaa, Camogie and Handball Clubs were joined by the pupils of St. John’s Senor, Johnswell NS and The Model School making it one of the biggest and most colourful entries ever.  Of course when we say colourful we mean White & Green…sure what other colours do you need!!! The crowd gathered at St. John’s Park and chief choreographer and organiser Stephen McCormack put some order on the group as it proudly marched down O’Loughlin Road to the parade starting point.  AS the parade wined through the streets of Kilkenny the O’Loughlin Gaels/ St. John’s Parish Group swelled in size so by the time it hit Rose Inn Street the little street burst at the seams to take the crowd and exploded into the Parade where the youngsters played out little matches in front of the main viewing stands and to the delight of onlookers…many from St. John’s Parish who pointed from the crowd and proudly claimed.. “ That’s our club”.  Johnny Swift was on hand to referee and the Tom Walsh Cup was protected by a battalion of ‘Lilliputian’ youngsters from St. John’s Senior School who were busy all week making beautiful shields for the occasion. Well done to all involved for what has now become one of the most anticipated entries on the St. Patricks Day Parade. Maith sibh go leir.

O’LOUGHLING GAELS CHAMPIONS DINNER – Mar 10th
(Full Photo Gallery Click Here...
http://www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie/social/champions-dinner-night-was-simply-the-best )

It was everything it promised ..not even the result of the Irel v Wales match could dampen the spirits of the 300 strong crowd that attended the Champions Dinner on Friday Night last. ..and that's not including the 'afters' crowd!!!

From 7pm they started to fill the large hall bedecked in White & Green by the hardworking Social Committee. The all-important Ireland v Wales rugby match was streamed live into the crowd via the six large screens set up around the hall that were later going to be used to keep the crowd close to proceedings as the night progressed. At half time messages were streamed in from club friends who could not be there. Mick Galwey & international ‘Superstar’ of the ‘70s Pat Spillane sent messages from Canada while club friend and Munster Rugby player Alan Quinlan added his congratulations. Not the required result from Cardiff to start off a party.. but one man was grinning like the cheshire cat was Welshman Jason Acremen, who accompanied his wife Marion - one of the guests on the night representing MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre, the club's juvenile Sponsors .  The result only temporarily dampened the crowds spirits as a quick review of the hurling championship in musical highlights ensured the party mood continued.

Club Chairman Brian Murphy welcomed everybody to the club including special guests from the Co. Board - Chairman Ned Quinn, Vice Chairman Conor Denieffe and Secretary, Jimmy Walsh.  Brian also thanked our three main sponsors for their continued support - Pat Carroll - as a valued sponsor of our senior teams while Marion Acreman Marketing Manager with MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre represented our juvenile Sponsors who have been with the club since 2007. Also present were John and Margaret McCarthy from McCarthys Eurospar Newpark who are main sponsors to the club's Family Dog Night that's held each Summer. We welcomed Fr. Purcell, Fr. O'Connor from St. John's Parish and Fr. Tommy Murphy one of the clubs co-founders along with Club President, Martin Hanlon.

Co. Board Chairman Ned Quinn congratulated the club and players on the 2016 success and wished them well for the coming season before presenting the medals to each of the 33 strong panel of players.  Each player, introduced by John Joe Cullen was greeted with a rousing O'Loughlin Gaels cheer with the loudest cheer reserved for the final player to be called out..Martin Comerford. Captain Brian Hogan spoke of the desire amongst the players for success and impressed upon those present that that hunger be instilled into our younger players to compete for team places and hence build a stronger club.  Manager Aiden Fogarty thanked all for their involvement in leaving no stone upturned in the pursuit of last years success.

All fed (thanks to Alan Cullen and his team of caterers - beef or salmon should anyone ask), watered and 'medaled' , it was time to party, and Drops of Green got that show on the road with a fine set enjoyed by a very satisfied crowd that had grown since the beginning of the night. It was now well into the early hours of Saturday morning and the revelers were getting into the swing of things with DJ-Seanie D providing the sounds. The Tom Walsh Cup was at the centre of the party and must have had more dance partners on the night than Warren Beatty ever had! - because O'Loughlin Gaels GAA Club have the best party's. This reveller left to the sounds of the morning course...and also left behind some hardened revellers still inside.  If you missed it..it's your own fault because you were well warned...but if you did..you missed a cracker!!

A huge thanks to the organising commitee Brian Murphy, John Skehan, Paddy Greene, Eoin Lawlor, Margaret Hanlon, Eileen Cleere, Mary Deegan, Coleman Loughnane & John Joe Cullen.

Thanks also to the Bar staff on the night, the glass collectors, the decorators and the cleaner-uppers. (Often the same people!!)

Well done to the players of course.... because no one will mind organising another one of those nights next year!! ..(..not even Paddy Greene!)

CONFIRMATION

Congratulations to the children of Johnswell NS, St. Johns Senior School and The Model School who were confirmed last Sunday morning. A lovely occasion where families and extended families & friends all congregated around St. Johns Parish to celebrate this very special occasion for the young children..and all looked fabulous too.

KILKENNY / TIPP

Kilkenny & Tipp served up another classic last Saturday evening as is well documented, and playing a major role at mid-field was the hard working Paddy Deegan. The O’Loughlin Gaels mid-fielder has shown that he’s got the appetite for this level and his hard work is paying off. For any young Gael taking part in training sessions on Sunday mornings or Thursday evenings take heed to the workrate of this man…Paddy is a regular at the wall ball when he’s not training  and that’s where you need to be.  Well done Paddy..great game and a great role-model for the young players around St. Johns Parish.  It was a proud evening again for the Deegan family as Paddy was again honoured with the captaincy. Well done to all the Kilkenny players …lovely hurling!!

ALL-IRELAND POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The best of luck to the O’Loughlin Gaels Players taking part in today’s All-Ireland Colleges Semi-Finals. Wins for both teams would see an all Kilkenny final and a rematch of the Leinster final that was played last month. The CBS negotiated a quarter final encounter last week against Athenry with the Gaels minor Sean Bolger playing a starring role.

FOOTBALL

Our Senior Football Team successfully negotiated the first round of this years championship with a fine win on Sunday morning over southern opposition Mooncoin. The lads now face serious opposition in Railyard in next weekends Quarter-final. Best of luck to all involved.

Well done to the big Mid-fielder Paddy Deegan who had the honour of leading out the Kilkenny Senior Team for their League clash against old rivals Cork last Sunday.
