ST JOHNS SNR INDOOR HURLING
Well done to all the boys and girls from St. Johns Snr School that played out the finals of their Indoor Hurling Tournament just before Christmas. The event was a huge success with brilliant displays of hurling skills demonstrated throughout the campaign in the weeks leading up to the finals. Well done to teachers Mr. Bergin, Mr. Kearns and Mr. Deegan for organising the event. Lovely hurling
 
JUVENILE HANDBALL
Well done to all our young hand-ballers who enjoyed a pre-Christmas tournament at O’Loughlin Gaels Handball Alleys with visitors Kilfane Juvenile Handball Club.  A special thanks to Juvenile coach John Morrissey who organised the event.
SUICIDE AWARENESS NIGHT
A Suicide awareness evening will be held in St. John’s Church on Wednesday the 3rd of January.  Guest Speakers will be Olympic Boxer Kenneth Egan, Pecki Brett and others. This is an annual event and always a special evening for those that have attended previously. All are welcome.

LIBRARY NEWS
City Library will close next Fri 22nd at 2 pm, re-opening Thurs 28th and Fri 29th Dec and Jan 2nd. We will hold a Customer coffee/tea morning from 10 -1 pm Thurs 21st, all are welcome!
Our 12 Books of Christmas Challenge finishes Dec  31st and all entries must be returned by Wed 10th Jan 2018. There are book vouchers to be won in each Branch and an overall prize of a Tablet. Best of luck to all! We wish all our customers a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year.
Our knitters meet again on Tues 9th Jan 5-7pm, French language group will meet every second Fri in Jan(ring for start date to be confirmed 7794174),  11-12.30pm and our Book Club meet Wed 20th  Dec, 11.30-12.30 to discuss ‘Satin Island’ by Tom McCarthy . New members welcome in all groups.

CONOR APPOINTED NEW SECRETARY
 
Congratulations to O’Loughin’s man Conor Denieffe who was appointed County Board Secretary at Kilkenny GAA Convention last Thursday evening.  Conor served as Co. Board Vice-Chairman for the last number of years and previously held the role of Co. Board PRO. Conor is a regular at Club events and was on hand to present awards at Juniors Awards Night last Satruday evening. O’Loughlin Gaels would like to wish Conor the best of luck in his new role… lovely hurling.
 
AGM
 
There was a very healthy turn out at The O’Loughlin Gaels GAA AGM last Wednesday evening. Chairman Brian Chairman thanked members for their continued good work and support of all teams and players.  Development at the club has been ongoing over the last number of years with works to the new entrance, upgrading of the existing, maintenance of pitches, the external painting of the club house, upgrading of heating, electrcial, security and safety services all contributing to the continued development of the St. John’s Park Complex. Further plans will be implemented over the coming years and the continued support of members and supporters is appreciated. Much of the discussion on the night focused on fixtures and the impact the new structures will have on the welfare of all players. Membership has steadily increased over recent years and panels are all being well looked after resulting in a high level of success as was outlined by both the Adult and Juvenile Hurling/Football Chairmen of Donal O’Dwyer and Nigel Leydon respectively. Chairman Brian Murphy thanked everyone for their attention and attendance and ended the evening by wishing all members and a very Happy Christmas and a ‘successful’ 2018.

JOHNSWELL NS PLAY
Johnswell NS will hold their Christmas School play in Johnswell Village hall on Thursday evening at 7:30PM.  All are encouraged to attend and enjoy a special evening of entertainment with some special young stars.

All members are encouraged to attend the Club AGM on December 13th.  It is an opportunity for members to offer an opinion on the review of the year and indeed put forward suggestions to help the future progression of O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club. Your opinion will not get heard if you stay away. The meeting takes place in the Club lounge at 7:30pm on Wednesday December the 13th.

SANTA AT ST. JOHN’S PARK
 
Well done to Sean Hogan & his team for organising another great Juvenile Christmas Party last Sunday afternoon.  As always Santa dropped by to chat with every child there and spent 2 hours taking photographs and laughing around with the children and their families.  All the photographs are available on the club website.

​CHRISTMAS PARTY & AWARDS NIGHT:

​The Club’s Christmas Party takes place in the lounge on Saturday December 16th for all members and friends. This will also be the night for the presentation of awards to the 2017 Junior League and Section B Champions. It will be another big night in the club and all are welcome  
 
 
MINOR/U16 AWARDS
Congratulations to all the O’Loughlin Gaels Minors & U16s who all received their medals from Co Board na nOg Chairman John Byrne on Friday night. Also in attendance was Conor Denieffe (incoming Co. Board Secretary) and Club President Marty Hanlon. The boys were praised for their efforts and commitment by respective managers Brian Dowling (Minor) and Niall Bergin (U16) and encouraged to continue their involvement with club teams over the coming years.  Well done to all involved.

ST. JOHN'S NOTES WEEKENDING DECEMBER 3rd 2017

MINOR/U16 AWARDS
Next Friday evening Dec 8th at 8:30pm the u16s and Minor Teams will receive their medals from this year's successes. U16s earned championship honours after they defeated James Stephens when a last puc of the sliotar found the net in the County Final replay after the sides couldn't be separated from the week earlier. The side also won the hurling league beating Dunnamaggin earlier in the summer. The minors also beat James Stephens in this year's Minor County Final but have yet to play the league final..the minor Bs are still in the reckoning for a Roinn C league title but no scheduling for the completion of this competition has been finalised. The club invites all members to attend and celebrate two very fine teams and mentors.

SANTA AT ST. JOHN’S PARK
 
Every year Santa makes a welcome visit to one of his favourite pre-Christmas tour destinations – St. John’s Park.  Here he takes the time to chat with every child that wishes to see him before he renews his membership of O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club and gets updates on all the club news from Chairman Brian Murphy. It is a special event and visitors are asked to help Santa by contributing to the Temple Street Children’s Hospital Fund. Santa will visit on Sunday December the 10th. We’ll keep you posted on the time.
 
CHRISTMAS PARTY & AWARDS NIGHT:
 
The Club’s Christmas Party takes place in the lounge on December 16th for all members and friends. This will also be the night for the presentation of awards to the 2017 Junior League and Section B Champions. It will be another big night in the club and all are welcome  
 
3 STAR CLUB
The O’Loughlin Gaels GAA juvenile section received the 3-Star Award for Promoting best practice in coaching and games development for the club at an event in Nowlan Park yesterday evening. Great work by everyone in the juvenile section in returning the highest rating a club can get once again.

All Ireland Champions: Congratulations to 'Gaels Conor Kelly, David Fogarty, Jack Sheridan & Ronan Lavelle winning Junior Colleges All-Ireland with St. Kieran's College today. The team was co-managed by Brian Dowling. Well done to all
 
JIM O’HARA TOURNAMENT
The Jim O’Hara Texas Holdem Cards Tournament takes place at O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club this Thursday evening. Registration is from 8pm

MENTORS APPRECIATION NIGHT
Thanks to Sullivan's Brewing Company and Irishtown brewing Dublin for looking after everybody at the Mentors appreciation night on Friday. There was a big crowd in to see the Dublin Blonde but certainly weren't disappointed when they found out she was a lager
