CHERNOBYL CERMONY The 26th of April 2016 marks the 30th Anniversary of the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Plant. To mark the anniversary Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group are organising a send-off for three trucks and an ambulance packed with humanitarian aid which will depart Kilkenny on Friday the 8th of April bound for Belarus. The Send Off will take place in O'Loughlin Gaels Gaa club from 3.30-5.00pm this Friday the 8th of April. Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group would like to invite the general public to attend this event and would also like to thank the people of Kilkenny for their on-going support for the charity. On the day there will be a short ceremony and a blessing of the trucks before they depart for Rosslare. Friday's event will be a significant event in marking the 30th Anniversary. St. John’s man Jim Kavanagh will be making close to his 60th Humanitarian Aid trip over a 20 year period. He will lead the convoy as they drive through over eight countries along the journey until they reach their final destination. The journey out will take just little less than a week, while they will spend ten to twelve days travelling around Belarus to orphanages and day care centres. Jim and the crew are expected home around the May Bank Holiday. The ceremony will be attended by the CEO and Co-founder of Chernobyl Children International as well as some very special guests – Chief Superintendent Dominic Hayes, Assistant Garda Commissioner Jack Nolan, Bishops Michael Burrows and Martin Freeman as well as Mayor Joe Malone and Council Chairperson Mary Hilda Kavanagh. Kilkenny Hurler and captain Shane will also be in attendance and entertainment will be provided by ‘Drops of Green’. O’Loughlin Gaels GAA is delighted to host the event and ALL ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO SEE THE CONVOY OFF. GAA WEEK’S RUN DOWN Junior Hurling League rd 2. O’Loughlin Gaels 2-12 to 0-12 Ballinkillen (Carlow) The Junior Hurlers kept up their good form with a hard fought win over Ballinkillen in slippery conditions. Good direct hurling and a hard work ethic gave the side their second win of the league. Minor A Hurling League Graigue Ballycallan 1-11 to 2-10 O’Loughlin Gaels Miserable weather conditions for this one still brought a decent crowd to Kilmanagh to witness the visitors nip this after a very tight encounter. The hardwork was put in by both teams but it was O’Loughlin Gaels who bagged the league points. U16A Hurling League O’Loughlin Gaels 2-8 to 1-15 Dicksboro A tough day at the office for the home side as Dicksboro brought an extra element of eagerness to the field to claim victory. There were good performances by a number of or players to keep management happy the lad will be happy enough to know what they need to work on U16B’s C Hurling League It’s a different story for the u16B team as they won two from two this week in their hurling league. First up was Cloneen who visited St. John’s Park. The scoreline here finished O’Loughlin Gaels 2-11 to 2-3 Cloneen.. Then on Monday evening the St. John’s outfit travelled to The Fenians of Johnstown where they came out winners again with a score of Fenians 1-9 to 2-12 O’Loughlin Gaels. U14 Football Championship O’Loughlin Gaels 3-6 to 1-3 Kilmoganny It took a while to break the game down but when they did there was no stopping the u14s as they now advance to the next round of the Roinn A football Championship. Great news again for Edel Mulholland who won the All Ireland Final in under 15 Doubles with Laura Foley (Windgap) in Kingscourt in Cavan on 20th March. Also, congratulations to John Morrissey who won County final in Masters A defeating Joe Hennessey also of O’Loughlins Handball. Well done to everybody t O’Loughlin Gaels Handball who are putting in some great work. GAA FOUNDATION A Foundation Coaching Course will be held in St. John’s Park (O’Loughlin Gaels GAA) on Saturday next April the 9th from 10am to 1-30pm. All coaches, mentors and parents interested from hurling and camogie are welcome to attend and encouraged to do so. Even if you’ve done before there’s always something new to take from it and it’s a great refresher. |
