The 26th of April 2016 marks the 30th Anniversary of the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Plant. To mark the anniversary Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group are organising a send-off for three trucks and an ambulance packed with humanitarian aid which will depart Kilkenny on Friday the 8th of April bound for Belarus.
The Send Off will take place in O'Loughlin Gaels Gaa club from 3.30-5.00pm this Friday the 8th of April.
Chernobyl Kilkenny Outreach Group would like to invite the general public to attend this event and would also like to thank the people of Kilkenny for their on-going support for the charity. On the day there will be a short ceremony and a blessing of the trucks before they depart for Rosslare. Friday's event will be a significant event in marking the 30th Anniversary.
St. John’s man Jim Kavanagh will be making close to his 60th Humanitarian Aid trip over a 20 year period. He will lead the convoy as they drive through over eight countries along the journey until they reach their final destination. The journey out will take just little less than a week, while they will spend ten to twelve days travelling around Belarus to orphanages and day care centres. Jim and the crew are expected home around the May Bank Holiday.
The ceremony will be attended by the CEO and Co-founder of Chernobyl Children International as well as some very special guests – Chief Superintendent Dominic Hayes, Assistant Garda Commissioner Jack Nolan, Bishops Michael Burrows and Martin Freeman as well as Mayor Joe Malone and Council Chairperson Mary Hilda Kavanagh. Kilkenny Hurler and captain Shane will also be in attendance and entertainment will be provided by ‘Drops of Green’.
O’Loughlin Gaels GAA is delighted to host the event and ALL ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO SEE THE CONVOY OFF.
