PLAYER NEWS

Best of luck to O’Loughlin Gaels players Conor Kelly, Jamie Young, David Fogarty and Niall Higgins who all are part of the Kilkenny Minor hurling panel getting ready for Sundays All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final at Croke Park.  Always a very proud day for our club to see O’Loughlin Gaels Players represented on big days like this. A good performance over Limerick last weekend earned them their chance and the boys will relish taking it.  Well done boys and good luck too to Niall Bergin also, a selector on the management team.

TEAM NEWS
Results:
Result: St. Canice's Credit Union County Hurling League Division 1
O'Loughlin Gaels 1-16 to 1-18 Ballyhale Shamrocks

It was a hard night for O'Loughlin Gaels teams with our Seniors exiting the Football Championship at the semi-final stage against a strong Mullinavat. 3-13 to 1-3 was the final score in Ballyhale putting to bed this year's Championship run.

The u19B's were narrowly defeated by James Stephens at Larchfield after another tight game between these sides. The lads took a long time to get going giving the home side a head start that they were almost forced to relinquish by a second half resurgent Gaels. The boys would rue those missed opportunities and final decisions that could have yielded scores to win however and unfortunately the final whistle came all too early ending not only the game but the season for this grade.....something the county board might look to amend for 2019.
Hard luck to all involved.
Result: J. J. Kavanagh and Sons J.H.L.
O'Loughlin Gaels 3-23 to 0-9 St Patrick's Ballyragget
A fine first half performance with Billy Leydon, Eoin O'Shea and Ferghal Brennan doing untold damage. A fine individual score by young corner back Oisín Murphy during this same period drew applause from spectators at St. Johns Park . The 2nd half was a much more pedantic game with the Gaels doing enough to maintain their dominance. A good win..and a job very well done. Lovely hurling.

Result: Junior B Hurling League
Johns Lockes 0-11 to 2-17 O'Loughlin Gaels
A much improved performance in the second half if this contest insured maximum points for the city side this afternoon. A goal in each half by full forward Michael Henebry (2-0) and some flawless free taking by Odhrán Lawlor (0-11, 10 frees) accounted for the bulk of the scores but the fitter younger team was ultimately the difference between these sides. Oisin Murphy (0-3) showed no signs of tiredness after last evenings exploits added 3 points if his own, while Tervine Wallace (0-1) relentless engine earned a fine score from play midway through the 2nd half. Jamie Ryan and Danny Bolger making up the score tally with a point each.
A well worked win...with a fine blend of player's. Well done all

Result: u13 A Hurling League
Dicksboro 0-6 to O'Loughlin Gaels 4-11
Another great result from.accross town as our u13s left Palmerstown with more league points after a strong team performance. Workrate and discipline the key factors in achieving this win was certainly helped by a first half hatrick of goals from full forward Kevin Waldron. A fourth goal sealed the deal.midway through the 2nd half when Ruarc Sweeney netted ..but it was the workrate and spread if scorers really impressed management tonight. New players stood up when needed showing that this panel are developing all the time. Well done all...lovely hurling

Result: u13 Bs Hurling League
O'Loughlin Gaels 6-5 to 1-12 Carrickshock.
A great result at home for our u13b's has added to a good run of wins for our u13 teams. The boys got off to s flying start thanks to an early Darragh Powell goal..Darragh would have got his 2nd goal before half time helping the Gaels to a 2-4 to 0-6 lead. The boys were put to the pin of their collar in the 2nd half as Carrickshock registered 1-4 within 10mins of the restart to come within a point. Josh Hynes latched on to a good move however and powered his way towards the visitors goal and finishing it to the net thereby re-energising a physical forward unit. A hatrick of goals by Conor Daly followed and the Gaels were home and dry.
Goals win games for sure but if anything the heroics of goalkeeper Zac Evans during that sustained period of Carrickshock pressure was arguably the winning if this game. If goals serve to energise teams...saves serve to deflate teams also. Brilliant performance by all the lads including the replacements who all got their opportunity.
Good work too by Conor Murphy, Evan Maher, Kieran Delaney and Owen McKenna all.had telling contributions to the game
