Camogie News

There was a large turn out on Saturday morning for the return to training of the O’Loughlin Gaels Camogie Juvenile Section. Over 100 young girls from u6 to u12s swarmed the St. Johns Park pitches under the stewardship of the hard working Camogie coaches.  Newcomers and ‘veterans’ enjoyed the morning with some girls expressing their disappointment at having to wait a whole week to the next training session. Well not to worry - training for juvenile camogie will continue each and every Saturday at 10.30am and new members are welcome anytime.   The many parents who gathered enjoyed the morning’s activities and were able to relax with some hot coffee varieties from the new Camogie Café. A welcome innovation set up by the camogie executive.

Next week sees the return of the u14s and u16s camogie as they resume training on Monday the 9th and Wednesday the 11th at 6.30pm.

Gaelic Football

The O’Loughlin Gaels senior team ran out impressive winners over Clara GAA in the first round of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football Championship. The scoreline of 3-14 to 0-5 is even more impressive considering the weather conditions presented on Sunday morning. The lads prepare now  for round 2

The Big Tree Clearout.

Saturday morning and right through the afternoon saw plenty of activity around the O’Loughlin Gaels Club. Development Chairman Coleman Loughnane and his band of merry men were busy felling and transporting hundreds of Silver Birch to new homes. The space is been cleared and made available to continue to improve the facilities at the club. Coleman is forever working new ways to make the place better to the benefit of all O’Loughlin Gaels’ members and the club is indebted to him. All Coleman asks for is a new pair of working gloves so that he can keep on going in the name of the St. Johns Club.  The good news is that the trees have found new homes and are been repatriated in avenues, gardens and public grounds throughout.

Club Lotto

There was no jackpot winner of this week’s club lotto. The numbers drawn were 4, 14, 20, 28 and the bonus number was: 06. Tickets can be bought from the usual selling agents or by asking at the clubhouse bar. Remember – if you’re not in; you can’t win the jackpot prize of €20,000. Best of luck!

Ministers of the Word Training Course

A Minister of the Word Course is currently being arranged by the Adult Faith Development Office for the 42 parishes.
A Ministers of the Word list will be collated similar to that of the Ministers of the Eucharist, i.e.  Readers will be commissioned for three, three year terms and then retire.    This Course is planned for new readers and also for ALL current readers in our parish, so that a complete list can be compiled. We will be notified by the Adult Faith Development Office as soon as dates have been arranged.

The Ossory Times

“We are currently working on the next edition of the Ossory Times.  It will be published for Easter  I’d obviously welcome and encourage any parish or group in the diocese to submit an article that you would like to see included.  Any article should be around 300/400 words and have at least one, and preferably more, colour picture(s).
“It is good to draw attention to the Gospel/Church alive in our midst. So if you have something why not ask someone involved to pen an article on it.  We need these, for this edition, by the middle of March (15th). Many thanks.” D. Ryan, Ed.
