Great win for the O'Loughlin Gaels u16 b team to make it a clean sweep of wins for all u16s teams so far in the league. The boys played well throughout to take the lead early and hold on to it throughout the match. A strong resolve in the last quarter cemented these youngsters as a team while they had to withstand a fighting comeback by Mullinavat. Well done to both teams who entertained the St. Johns crowd with a very competitive game of hurling. Johns Sheridan's young men now look forward to their next challenge when round 3 of the league takes place next week against Tullaroan. Keep it going boys.

The 2015 league campaign got off to a good start last week away with a victory to dicksboro and the lads entertained a James Stephens team smarting from their opening defeat to Naas in their opening league match .
The village boys shot out of the blocks , scoring two quick goals to show their intent ! However the o'loughlins lads have a lightening fast forward line and once they settled they showed some speed in levelling scores with two goals each from om Dacel Fwamba and Owen Wall. Half time 4-08 to 3-04 They finished out the strongest too with impressive scores from Ben Maher , eoin o shea and Ronan Buckley among the fine point scorers and a further couple of goals with Adam Flynn finishing a great full pitch move with what it seemed like all 15 players involved Final score 6-15 to 4-08. Next up bennetsbridge away on Monday 20th Gaelic Football u16 County Champions 2014
Congratulations to the O’Loughlins u16 Football team who retained the Duggan Steel County Championship by defeating Dicksboro at a cold and blustery Palmerstown on Sunday morning. This was a tough encounter with two big teams slugging it out under difficult conditions. The first half of this game non-descript as both teams struggled to deal with the cold conditions. The soft ground and a stiff cold breeze resulted in lots of handling errors and few scores but both teams clearly were determined and didn’t give each other an inch. In a tight game every ball was contested and when referee John Guinan blew for half time neither team held the advantage. The second half tempo of the game increased somewhat which helped to warm the blood of the sizeable support that had gathered. O’Loughlin Gaels had the disadvantage now of kicking into the wind but looked more like the team with the wind in their sails. Maybe it was the half time talk from Manger Brian Dowling but whatever it was these lads had goals on their minds and goals they got. Dacel Fwamba entered the fray adding pace to the forward pack and the momentum immediately turned in the St. Johns lads favour. Goals from Kevin Murphy, Eoin Wall and Tervine Wallace gave our lads the advantage late in the second half but Dicksboro fought hard and kept the fight up to the very end. With the sides level in the final minute Dicksboro’s final attack was hampered by a hardworking O’Loughlins defence. Peter Collins, Conor Heary and Shane Mahony linked up to quickly move the ball out of defence. Quick thinking and fast passing movement followed by a subline kick pass up to midfield caught the Dicksboro lads on the back foot and Ben Maher moved the ball at pace to the terrier like Eoin Wall. The lively corner forward had only goal on his mind and finished into the corner of the net for his second goal of the afternoon and the Gaels fourth. Soon afterwards the final whistle sounded and our lads savoured victory with their families and friends that had gathered to support topping a great season for the u16s. Well done to all involved. Team: Sean Bolger, Stephen Scallon, Peter Collins, Kevin Murphy, Eoin Kelly, Shane O’Mahony, Conor Heary, Charlie Deegan, Ryan Poyntz, Ronan Buckley, Tervine Wallace (c) , Ben Maher, Eoin Wall, Joe Banville, Eoin O’Shea. Dacel Fwamba, Stephen Scallon, Sean O’Leary, Eoin Neary, David McCormack, Robert Boyd, Padraig Nolan, Adam Flynn, Joe Murphy, John Nolan, James Higgins, Cian Madden, Adam Cummins, Jordon Molloy, Lorcan Whelan. O'Loughlin Gaels regained the Duggan Steel U-16 Roinn A County title with a superb display of skill and speed that saw them overwhelm last year’s winners Dicksboro in Bennettsbridge.
The conditions were summer-like and from the very first ball O'Loughlin Gaels made their intentions known when Eoin Wall pointed after Robbie O'Driscoll found him in space. Better was to follow for the St John’s outfit moments later when Ben Maher latched onto a breaking ball, to send the green flag waving. Edward Moylan responded for Dicksboro with two quickly pointed frees before O'Driscoll scored a great individual goal. Moylan again pointed for Dicksboro and it took until the 20th minute for the next score to arrive with the deficit being cut to three via a Justin Cahill point. O'Driscoll, Sean Bolger & Wall all pointed with Dicksboro's sole score during the middle quarter coming from Mark Nolan. The last score of the half came from O'Driscoll, leaving O'Loughlin Gaels leading 2-5 to 0-5 at the break. Many were expecting a tight second half instead it was game, set & match by the 43rd minute with O'Loughlin Gaels out scoring their opponents 2-4 to 1-1 to gain an unassailable lead. Wall was again to the fore, pointing from the restart with Eoin O'Shea & Sean Bolger (2) each grabbing points. Sean Bolger then split the Dicksboro defence going on a 45 yard which ended with the midfielder sending the ball to the roof of the net. Liam Kennedy hit with back with a goal after some neat work by Evan Carroll. Edward Moylan briefly lifted hopes with a pointed free but Eoin Wall finished the game as a contest when he goaled. O'Loughlin Gaels had strangled the life out of their opponents and added further misery with a Ben Maher goal. The St John's outfit will take great delight in this victory with star performances from Eoin Wall, Sean Bolger, Shane Mahony & Robbie O'Driscoll and Tervine Wallace. O'Loughlin Gaels: Stephen Scanlon, Joe Banville, Jordan Molloy, Charlie Deegan, Peter Collins, Shane Mahony, Jay Leahy, Sean Bolger, Eoin Kelly, Ronan Buckley, Tervine Wallace, Ben Maher, Eoin Wall, Robbie O'Driscoll, Eoin O'Shea. Subs: Adam Power, Kevin Murphy, Ryan Poyntz, Joe Murphy , John Delaney. A good evening for hurling in bennetsbridge and the Gaels faced a stiff test from ballyhale shamrocks. The lads hurled hard in the first half and were rewarded with a goal right on the stroke of half time which gave them a well deserved lead going in. They pushed harder again in the second half to run out winners and move on . The u16 hurlers had a great victory in Cork on Saturday in the Na Piarsaigh Gaa tournament. There were four teams involved - Na Piarsaigh, De La Salle, KIlmacud Crokes and O Loughlins. The lads won the first two games easily enough, which set them up for a final against the hosts Na Piarsaigh. The 3rd group game was cancelled and they played the final 30 minutes aside instead. The game was brilliant, great scores, hooking, blocking, intensity all the way through. The first half was very tough, Na Piarsaigh were on top and raced into an early lead. Sean Bolger was the best forward on view all day and scored a fantastic goal to keep O Loughlin's in touch. The final score of the half came from the stick of Robbie O Driscoll from the sideline. Half time score was 3-3 to 1-4. Nobody could have predicted what was about to unfold in the second half. Jordan Molloy was moved to full back where he completely stopped the Na Piarsaigh's main player. Shane Mahony took over at centre back, scoring one superb inspirational point. The big turning point was a goal from the energetic and hard working Tervine Wallace. Ronan Buckley now at full forward was causing hovoc inside and setting up chances for team mates. John Delaney was moved from corner back to centre forward and was very effective. More goals followed from super sub Eoin Neary, and Adam Power. The lads held on for a deserved 3 point victory on a scoreline of 4-12 to 3-12. It was a superb second half performance, one which will be hopefully repeated later on in the year. Man of the match was Charlie Deegan who gave a superb display at corner back and playing the sweeper role. The Micky Coade Memorial cup was presented to team captain Shane Mahony afterwards. Team for the final was as follows: Steven Scallon, Eoin Kelly, John Delaney, Charlie Deegan, Peter Collins, Shane Mahony, Jordan Molloy, Ryan Poyntz, Ronan Buckley, Adam Power, Tervine Wallace, Robbie O Driscoll, Eoin O Shea, Sean Bolger, Kevin Murphy. Subs: Eoin Neary, Joe Banville, Padraig Nolan, Luke Freyne. Brian Dowling Under 16 match tonight v the village in O'Loughlins is at 7pm and not 6.30pm as advertised! U 16b team lose out to Cloneen in this evenings u 16 Roinn c hurling league on a score line 1 10 to 0 15. In a very competive game both teams gave it their all. Best for oloughlins were Steven Scallon who gave a commanding display in defence and Adam Power in attack where he got some great scores from frees. Score of the match was by eoin Neary who ran nearly the length of the pitch to split the posts CBS Kilkenny defeated Midleton in the All-Ireland U16 Junior Final last weekend. The match took place in Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Saturday last. O'Loughlin Gaels had eight players on the CBS team: Shane Mahony, Peter Collins, Jay Leahy, Sean Bolger, Robbie Murphy, Robbie O'Driscoll, Ronan Buckley and Jordan Molloy. OLG salutes the hard work done by both the players and mentors in CBS and pledges to develop these boys’ talents even further, as they progress through the ranks in our club. |
