The seniors came away from Jenkinstown tonight relieved probably to share the spoils. Playing with 14 men from the 4th minute after Martin Comerford was shown the line, the lads were the better side throughout the first half ending it with a 4 point advantage helped by a well taken Mark Bergin goal. (1-7 to 0-6) .After a fractious first half marred with various melees referee John Kennedy was never going to allow the game to become too co...ntentious and felt obliged to blow the whistle at every opportunity. Free taker Mark Kelly was clinical with the dead ball and accounted for all of O'Loughlins scores in the second half. 'Comer did get a goal early in the second half, but only after a brilliant save from the on form Stephen Murphy, and went ahead temporarily. Paddy Deegan won ball after ball and helped drive the lads on to keeping the league points available for the taken. One league point from this game was well earned and indeed a valuable one as we pass the half way mark on this campaign.

O'Loughlin Gaels 2-13 1-11 Dicksboro A second league win and another job done. At half-time this game had the makings of a rout as O'Loughlins led 1-10 to 0-3 and were dominant all over the field with Dicksboro's points all coming from frees. In fact it wasn't until the 44th minute that Dicksboro registered their first score from play and at that stage the game stood at 2-12 to 0-6. Both O'Loughlin's goals coming from the lively corner forward Conor Bergin. Mark Bergin was having a blinder at centre forward and Martin Comerford was in charge in midfield. But Dicksboro made personal changes that upset the momentum of the game from the St. Johns perspective and finished out the the last 15mins well. It was a case of the old dog for the old road however (don't kill me Brian!) when Brian Hogan stepped up at the end of the game to launch his second point of the evening and the final score of the match quelling any fight back from a resurgent Dicksboro..albeit 50mins too late. In truth O'Loughlin Gaels were always in control and looked the more experienced and sharper side when it mattered. A job very well done. There'll be a more detailed report later on www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie Luke Leydon's picture shows Conor Bergin on another assault on the Dicksboro goal...well done Conor ,..and well done Luke! |
