The dark clouds that threatened all day lifted just before throw in and we were treated to a beautiful sunny evening and some excellent hurling from our u14 team. They got off to a flyer with a couple of quick points followed by goals from Dacel Fwamba , Jamie Ryan David fogerty and Mathew russell . They kept piling on attack after attack and there was little respite for the comer lads who to be fair never gave in and pushed each other on til the final whistle. 5 wins from 5 now to top the league and these lads look hungry to improve. Strong performances today from joe Murphy and odhran Lawlor at half back and although they didn't get much action the full back line dealt very well with most threats and the rare line break found Jamie Malone in fine shot stopping form in goal . Keep it up lads ! The O’Loughlin Gaels Summer Camp will take place again this summer for two weeks in August. This is the sixth year of the camp and it continues to grow in popularity each year, with 160 children taking part over the two weeks last summer. The key words associated with the camp are fun, enjoyment, participation and skill development. Niall Bergin and his team of qualified GAA coaches work hard each year to create and implement a diverse programme aimed at developing the basic skills of hurling/camogie, gaelic football, rounders and handball in a fun-filled, friendly and energetic environment. Each morning the groups will work on developing the skills of each game through a range of drills and activities. In the afternoon the children will use these skills in mini-games where the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment. An exciting part of each week for the children is always the visit of a number of inter-county hurling, camogie and football stars who chat to the children about skill development and lifestyle as well as posing for photos and signing numerous jerseys, hurls, helmets and even arms!! · The camp is open to all O’Loughlin Gaels club members, boys and girls aged 5-13 years. · Each child will receive a quality sports pack with O’Loughlin Gaels gear. · Camp begins at 10am with lunch from 12-12.30pm and finishes up at 2.30pm. · We are really lucky to have the use of such great facilities in St. John’s Park with three pitches, a wall ball, two handball alleys and an indoor hall – which saves us from the sometimes unpredictable Irish weather!! · The camp costs €60 per child for one week or €85 for two weeks. One sports pack per child included in this price. · The dates for this year’s camp are: Week 1: Tuesday August 5th – Saturday August 9th Week 2: Monday August 11th – Friday August 15th Application forms are available from club underage management, in the clubhouse itself, Kearns butchers, JJ Cullen butchers, St. John’s Quay Library and on the club website www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie. Closing date for applications is Friday June 20th so get in early to avoid disappointment. Please note late applications cannot be guaranteed availability of sports pack. O Loughlin Gaels under 14 team gained some revenge for the recent Paddy Grace Cup final defeat this evening . They were victorious over Dicksboro by 15 points . Our boys got of to a great start when they scored the only goal of the match in the first minute . By half time most of the work was done when we lead 1 13 to 0 02 . It was a super performance by the full panel of twenty players , who all played . We all look forward to the year ahead and we imagine that these two teams will have more battles before the year concludes
The lads put on a great display of hurling today in a very breezy Clara but were just edged past in the last minute of extra time by Dicksboro. A slow start earlier in the morning semi final saw the village take an early lead but the lads woke up and put in a big effort to pull back and beat them in the shorter game format that is the feile. 20 minutes a half means early scores on the board can be hard to get back but this team pulls hard for each other and they were deserving finalists. They met a fresher Dicksboro team in the afternoon , and our boys looked like deserving winners until a goal late in regular time saw dicksboro eqiualise and bring the match to extra time. The 5 minutes is a very short format and the game could have gone either way but unluckily for our lads it was not their day. This team is definitely gelling well now and this early in the season , better days will come their way . Great performances all around the field today , some cracking passing moves , great vision with the free taking. It was a good day for the u14s at the Feile qualifiers in Hugginstown.. Victories over Freshford and Glenmore ensure the team moves on to the semi final of Feile 2014 on Bank Holiday Monday. There were fine individual performances but there is no doubt that the team's strength lies in the passing game coached by the management team. Great team interplay led to a number of fine scores , many of which came from some of the newer squad members, Declan Coffey , Donal O'Leary ,Jack Sheridan and Conor Kelly . Conor Heary , Dacel Fwamba both contributed to the final scoreline and what proved most encouraging was the way they created scoring chances for their teammates at every opportunity. Solid defensive play from all the backs ,with Full Back Mikey Butler adding a fine point to the forward's efforts. Well done to Jack Sheridan, Marble City Boxing Club (now located in St John's Parish) who boxed in an All-Ireland Semi-Final last week at The National Stadium, Dublin. Jack gave an excellent account of himself against Willie "Big-Bang" Casey Jnr., representing Munster, but just came up short on the day. There is no need to fear for Jack: he bounced back to play an important role in O'Loughlin Gaels' u14 Féile qualifier victories last Sunday, punching in with two well taken goals at Hugginstown against St Lachtains, Freshford.
A fine evening in St John's park brought out a large crowd for the first local derby of the new season. Over 400 people witnessed the young lads from O'Loughlin Gaels but on a fine display of good solid hurling to put in a good score against their city rivals. Excellent performances from all around the field limited the scoring chances for the village while fine forward play from our lads saw them wind up convincing 9-11 winners to the villages 2-4
Once again , tough challenges await down the line but so far so good and the improvement is coming. The man of the match for me was Oisin Murphy with a cracking display in midfield followed closely by Matthew Russell , but the real stand out moment was an elegant hand pass by young David Fogarty that not only left the opposing player wondering how he did it , but the big crowd applauding a moment of fine young skill . On a bright evening in Ballyhale , the u14s got the league off to a winning start against Shamrocks. The team got off to a flyer with goals coming from all angles including fine move that ended with Matthew Russell striking a cracking Goal. fine performances from all around the pitch ended in a good victory . a tougher game against the village is next and the team will have to improve now as the weeks progress . |
