Players and Management from the 1976 u14, u16 and u21 O'Loughlin Gaels Teams
1976 40th ANNVERSARY REUNION - SAT 5th NOVEMBER at O'LOUGHLIN GAELS GAA CLUB
It was an evening to remember at O'Loughlin Gaels GAA Club on Saturday evening as the men of '76 gathered to remember a year never to forget for O'Loughlin Gaels GAA. The players of the successful u14, u16 and u21 teams enjoyed a visual slideshow of old photographs to the humorous narration of one JJ Cullen who celebrated events of that year and took the opportunity to remind fella's of better hairlines, less shapely body forms and good times. Former club president Eamon Doyle took the players on a journey through the development of the club and facilities from that era to the present,t and Club Chairman Brian Murphy was on hand to welcome the players and their families -some of whom are ever present in the club and others who were back for the first time in many years. Brian too was reminded of his own achievement in that year as an All-Ireland winner with the Cork senior hurlers with a generous applause. County Board Vice Chairman and O'Loughlin Gaels man Conor Denieffe addressed the players and welcomed the clubs' efforts to pay homage to a successful time for the club. The Tom Walsh cup was present also as was the u21 trophy... the lads were u21 County Champions in 1976 and 40 years later O'Loughlin Gaels are still u21 County Champions. - not bad going!!!
The sheer delight at each others presence was palpable throughout the evening testimony to the fact that next door in the bar the TV screens were transmitting footage of history being made in Chicago as Ireland beat the All-Blacks for the very first time. The lads had their eye to it alright but they were more interested in hearing each others stories and enjoying the refreshment provided by the reunion committee of John Skehan, Anthony Bergin, John Joe Cullen, Pat Cantwell, Sean Tyrrell and Brian Murphy.
