About Mount Leinster Ranger GAA
In 1987 the three clubs of Ballymurphy, Borris and Rathanna amalgamated to form one parish club of Mount Leinster Rangers. The quarter of a century since has seen the club go from strength to strength with many titles won at juvenile and adult level, culminating in the high point of our appearance in the All Ireland Club Senior Hurling Final in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day 2014. We also won Leinster and All Ireland Intermediate Hurling titles in 2011/2012. The club caters for large numbers of boys and girls in hurling and football with many adult members involved in coaching the juveniles. Our club is well represented at all levels on county teams in hurling in particular. Though hurling is the dominant game in the area now, there was previously a strong tradition of football in the area. Jim Byrne from Ballymurphy won four All Ireland Senior medals with Wexford from 1914-1918 and was captain and freetaker in 1918, while Bill Doyle from Borris played Gaelic Football for Ireland in the Tailteann Games of 1932. When Carlow won their lone Leinster Senior Football title in 1944, the parish had four representatives.
Mount Leinster Rangers will field two teams in this years Féile na nGael. Their Div 1 team will play out their group matches at St. John's Park. We wish them all a very good campaign.
