The Sunday morning fog did not deter the hardy Under-6’s of O’ Loughlin Gaels who returned to hurling training in great number with team manager Stephen McCormack and his team of coaches Sunday last, 8th February. We are delighted to welcome so many new young hurlers to the club this year, we look forward to a fun-filled, action-packed season of hurling ahead with all members, new and existing. New members are still welcome to come along and join up over the coming weeks. During the cold weather, the Under-6 team are lucky to have the option of training indoors, in O’ Loughlin’s splendid sports hall. Training sessions take place Sunday mornings, 10.30-11.30am. Last Sunday morning, the cream of Kilkenny’s under 6 hurling talent , (and some of Wexford’s) descended upon the fine facilities of St. John’s Park at O’ Loughlin Gaels club grounds in their full club colours to take part in a highly anticipated Blitz to showcase all that is good about getting youngsters involved in Juvenile hurling from an early age.
We welcomed teams from Dicksboro, Clara, and St. Patrick’s (Ballyragget), John Lockes (Callan), Young Irelands (Gowran), Cushinstown (New Ross), O’ Loughlin Gaels and Erin’s Own Castlecomer. Each team played four thrilling mini-matches, with every player receiving a medal for their efforts on the day from O’ Loughlin Gael’s senior club players, Brian Hogan and Mark Kelly, taking time out from their preparation for the upcoming All Ireland SHC. The sportsmanship, comradery, spirit and determination of these fine young teams on an unseasonably chilly morning was a fine spectacle for parents, friends and supporters to enjoy. Huge credit must go to all of the team mentors, managers, assistant coaches and in particular, one Stephen McCormack, without who’s organisational skills and constant enthusiasm for managing the under 6 end of things for O’ Loughlin Gaels, the Blitz could not have been so successfully coordinated. Thanks also is extended to all those who made and served refreshments and handed out warm cups of tea to those die-hard supporters who were on the side-lines for all of the morning’s action. In fact the only expected visitor who failed to appear on the morning was the rain, with the first drop falling just as the final whistles blew! A great day had by all and we look forward to many more to come. Ádh do na iománaithe óga go léir, a choinneáil suas an dea-obair! Kathy Egan O’ Loughlin Gaels are delighted to host their annual Under-6 hurling blitz on Sunday, 24th August from 10am for teams from the following clubs: Dicksboro, Clara, St. Patrick’s (Ballyragget), John Lockes (Callan), Young Irelands (Gowran), Cushinstown( New Ross), O’ Loughlin Gaels and Erin’s Own (Castlecomer). The first matches will start at 10.30am and every player will receive a medal for their participation from our Senior clubmen Brian Hogan and Mark Kelly, fresh from their defeat of Limerick in last Sunday’s thrilling all-Ireland Semi Final. We look forward to welcoming all our U-6 friends and their families and hope for a good turn out on what promises to be a fun morning for all. Our up-and-coming under-6’s were back in force last Thursday evening as they lined out against the maroon and white jerseys of St. Patrick’s Ballragget for three rousing matches alongside their U-8 comrades who also played hosts to the impressive Ballyragget visitors. An unwavering Ballyragget panel gave their all in what turned out to be an impressive exhibition of promising young hurling talent.
Thanks as always to our friends from St. Patrick’s of Ballyragget, team mentors; Ger Maher and Andy Hanrahan, Under-6 manager Stephen McCormack and all who turned out to cheer on the teams in the evening sunshine. U-6 OLG Panel: Cian Byrne, Luke McDonald, Ruairí Hanrahan, Conor Houlihan, T.J. Comerford, Harry Egan, Jaden Broaders, A.J. O’ Keeffe, Eldon Sheridan, Christopher Hayes, Matthew Parsons, Jamie O’ Keeffe, Jamie Houlihan, Jack O’ Dwyer, Ruairí Bowden Mullen, Conor McDonald, Ryan Farrell, Cathal Grogan, Adam Quigley, Amin Ibraham. Kathy Egan On a warm July evening, an energetic panel of 24 of our Under-6 hurlers played two thrilling games each against a fiery Clara side. The matches, which were ten minutes a side, allowed the young players to showcase the skills and talents that they have developedunder the coaching of their mentors this year and the management of Stephen McCormack ( O’ Loughlin Gaels) and Trevor Cummins ( Clara). Stamina, drive and determination led both teams to two well-deserved victories each. In an excellent display of gamesmanship, both teams thanked each other for a great game and shook hands like true sportsmen at the closing of the game. Special thanks to all those enthusiastic parents who travelled from Clara and of course to our own parents and supporters who were on hand to fasten helmets and cheer on our promising young hurlers. Well done to all! U-6 OLG Panel: Cian Byrne, Adam Maher, Ruairí Hanrahan, David McGee, Jack O’ Dwyer, Ruairí Bowden Mullen, Ryan Farrell, Eldon Sheridan, Aaron Doyle, A.J. O’ Keeffe, T.J. Comerford, Noah Wall, Sam McKenna, Adam Quigley, Evan Walsh, Dylan Hennessey. Kathy Egan Even after a late night at the dog track an enthusiastic panel of u8s were on the road early again on Saturday morning to make the trip to a picturesque Thomastown GAA. Two teams faced the saffron blue jersey of Thomastown for a pulsating morning of hurling to whet the appetite of any hurling fans heading to Nowlan Park later in the evening to see Wexford and Waterford battle out to remain in this years All.-Ireland championship. The level of skill on display by these young hurlers was as high as you'll see on any pitch throughout the country. All players got full game time and relished every opportunity to play the ball. David Balfour was as industrious as ever in midfield. Zach Evans, Sean Falsey and JJ Mooney gave good performances throughout both their matches. Darragh Powell carried his good form from his performance earlier in the week. Michael Lambert was again exceptional in defence and Luke Quigley continues to improve at every opportunity he gets. Well done Luke and keep it going!
Luke Hanrahan, Stephen Butler, Greg Kelly and Eoghan O'Brien as always gave 100% and made life very difficult for the Thomastown defence. Conor Farrell demonstrated acts of bravery in the O'Loughlins defence that stifled the Thomastown attack on more than one occasion. Such defending allows the scores to come easy up front and Cormac Wall took his goal well when the opportunity arose. Sean O'Neill, Sean Morrissey and newcomer Tadgh Kavanagh Dewbury were all eager to attack the ball. The interlink play between all these players demonstrates to us that a great team is forming and will be a force to be reckoned with in future years. A big thankyou from the club to all the players and their families for their continued commitment. A big thanks also to Thomastown GAA and we look forward to a return fixture in a few weeks time. More games are scheduled over the next few weeks. Panel: Kirrills Doubvjenko, Zach Evans, Sean Falsey, Michael Lambert, Darragh Powell, Sean Morrissey, Luke Quigley, Eoghan O'Brien, Cormac Wall, Luke Hanrahan, Harry Nolan, Stephen Butler, Greg Kelly, David Balfour, Conor Farrell, Sean O'Neill, Tadgh Kavanagh Dewberry, James Houlihan, JJMooney. Gaelic Football continued tonight with 48 players taking to the fields at a sun-drenched John's Park for more eagerly contested training sessions. The development of skills over a relatively short time since the boys started is very obvious. Numerous players are consistently displaying skills akin to anything seen on our TV screens from Croke Park each week. High catching, kick passing, hand passing and possession football are all skills that these young players are getting more and more comfortable with each week. The enthusiasm shown by the boys play is testimony to the efforts put in by all the coaches and the club conveys a big thanks to all concerned for their time on this regard. So parents ....keep bringing those young players, there'll be plenty more summer evenings where these lads can display their skills and continue to have great fun. More players are always welcome and we will arrange some matches later in the Summer. Gaelic Football continues each Monday at 6.30pm for u8s, u9s, u10s and u11s. Gumshield is required. |
