Last Sunday morning, the cream of Kilkenny’s under 6 hurling talent , (and some of Wexford’s) descended upon the fine facilities of St. John’s Park at O’ Loughlin Gaels club grounds in their full club colours to take part in a highly anticipated Blitz to showcase all that is good about getting youngsters involved in Juvenile hurling from an early age.
We welcomed teams from Dicksboro, Clara, and St. Patrick’s (Ballyragget), John Lockes (Callan), Young Irelands (Gowran), Cushinstown (New Ross), O’ Loughlin Gaels and Erin’s Own Castlecomer. Each team played four thrilling mini-matches, with every player receiving a medal for their efforts on the day from O’ Loughlin Gael’s senior club players, Brian Hogan and Mark Kelly, taking time out from their preparation for the upcoming All Ireland SHC. The sportsmanship, comradery, spirit and determination of these fine young teams on an unseasonably chilly morning was a fine spectacle for parents, friends and supporters to enjoy. Huge credit must go to all of the team mentors, managers, assistant coaches and in particular, one Stephen McCormack, without who’s organisational skills and constant enthusiasm for managing the under 6 end of things for O’ Loughlin Gaels, the Blitz could not have been so successfully coordinated. Thanks also is extended to all those who made and served refreshments and handed out warm cups of tea to those die-hard supporters who were on the side-lines for all of the morning’s action. In fact the only expected visitor who failed to appear on the morning was the rain, with the first drop falling just as the final whistles blew! A great day had by all and we look forward to many more to come. Ádh do na iománaithe óga go léir, a choinneáil suas an dea-obair! Kathy Egan

O’ Loughlin Gaels are delighted to host their annual Under-6 hurling blitz on Sunday, 24th August from 10am for teams from the following clubs: Dicksboro, Clara, St. Patrick’s (Ballyragget), John Lockes (Callan), Young Irelands (Gowran), Cushinstown( New Ross), O’ Loughlin Gaels and Erin’s Own (Castlecomer). The first matches will start at 10.30am and every player will receive a medal for their participation from our Senior clubmen Brian Hogan and Mark Kelly, fresh from their defeat of Limerick in last Sunday’s thrilling all-Ireland Semi Final. We look forward to welcoming all our U-6 friends and their families and hope for a good turn out on what promises to be a fun morning for all. Our up-and-coming under-6’s were back in force last Thursday evening as they lined out against the maroon and white jerseys of St. Patrick’s Ballragget for three rousing matches alongside their U-8 comrades who also played hosts to the impressive Ballyragget visitors. An unwavering Ballyragget panel gave their all in what turned out to be an impressive exhibition of promising young hurling talent.
Thanks as always to our friends from St. Patrick’s of Ballyragget, team mentors; Ger Maher and Andy Hanrahan, Under-6 manager Stephen McCormack and all who turned out to cheer on the teams in the evening sunshine. Kathy Egan On a warm July evening, an energetic panel of 24 of our Under-6 hurlers played two thrilling games each against a fiery Clara side. The matches, which were ten minutes a side, allowed the young players to showcase the skills and talents that they have developedunder the coaching of their mentors this year and the management of Stephen McCormack ( O’ Loughlin Gaels) and Trevor Cummins ( Clara). Stamina, drive and determination led both teams to two well-deserved victories each. In an excellent display of gamesmanship, both teams thanked each other for a great game and shook hands like true sportsmen at the closing of the game. Special thanks to all those enthusiastic parents who travelled from Clara and of course to our own parents and supporters who were on hand to fasten helmets and cheer on our promising young hurlers. Well done to all! U-6 OLG Panel: Cian Byrne, Adam Maher, Ruairí Hanrahan, David McGee, Jack O’ Dwyer, Ruairí Bowden Mullen, Ryan Farrell, Eldon Sheridan, Aaron Doyle, A.J. O’ Keeffe, T.J.
