On Saturday 17 September the u10s took the short trip out to St. Martins grounds in Coan. Conditions were perfect ,sunshine and perfectly manicured pitches...with an open draw between 4 teams the boys were drawn against the home team ,St Martins. What a tough match it was ,hooks, blocks hand-passes and shoulder on shoulder 'welcomes'!!.... it had it all - and then some. There was some fabulous play from both sides which gave for some great hurling and probably recorded the most amount of shots hit off the up-rights Iat an underage tournament, only for the determination shown by both teams to win you'd think they were trying to hit them. in the end however there was just the smallest of margins between the sides and thankfully to the young Gaels advantage as they progressed to the cup final against Gowran
This was another tough match...physically Gowran put it up to our boys but our lads returned it in spades as you'd expect! By half time the young Gaels were down by 7pts but never let it get to them and kept plugging away untill just on full time the gamel was level ..a long ball into the O'Loughlins attack created a chance to win it, but their goalkeeper somehow cleared his line and sent a long ball back up field. Not for the first time this year the boys were caught for a sucker-punch and Gowrn hit goal...
THe boys will be disappointed they didn't return to St. John's Park with a tournament win bu to say that we're mighty proud of these boys is an understatement....Well done boys, Keep it up.
