They hadn’t got it all their own way as Carrickshock had stormed ahead 0-10 to 1-1 after just 20minutes but the reigning Champions hauled back the deficit and managed to go to the break two points to the good helped by a fortunate goal from a Mark Bergin free. The Second half the lads showed a little more composure but couldn’t shift the challenge until the closing moments of the game when three unanswered points guaranteed maximum points. JUVENILE TRAINING Our juvenile Teams were had another busy week representing O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club. On top of the hurling for their schools teams at St. Johns, Gaelscoil, Johnswell, The Model, CBS and St. Canices the boys and girls of St, John’s Parish were giving it their all for their club. U6s had a brilliant Thursday evening hosting neighbours Dicksboro when over 70 young guns played out a series of games in front of the club house. The same evening u10s hosted James Stephens while the u12s prepared in the wings for their weekend matches. On Saturday the u11s took part in the Glynn Barntown Tournament, Wexford and hurled their socks off in what was a fantastic day for this group. While on the same day their colleagues hosted games for Tullaraon and St. Martins in front of a very please crowd. U8s took part in the annual Ossory Hurling Festival at St. KIerans College on Saturday in a series of what was described as ‘epic’ games against stiff opposition. Tickets only €2 available from the bar http://www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie/lotto SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE Round 2 of the St. Canices Senior Hurling League saw O’Loughlin Gaels take on Mullinavat. It was a tough encounter that never saw our lads really fire on all cylinders and although they worked hard to earn the draw after going into the break 4 points down, it was really one that got away considering O’Loughlins had turned that deficit into a 4 point lead with just 3 minutes to play. A good test that saw good work by a few players working to get on this team. A few have laid down a marker over these first couple of games and competition for places will certainly be hotting up. A good place for any selector to be in. Next up is Carrickshock on May 20th in Bennettsbridge. That is one to look forward to http://www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie/senior-mens-news JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE
Dicksboro 2-20 to 1-20 O'Loughlin Gaels Disappointingly no points bagged from this entertaining junior hurling league fixture in Palmerstown this evening. A decent crowd saw O'Loughlins start well and began the 2nd half 3 points clear. The sides traded scores in the opening moments of the half and a fine goal by the 'boro on the 8th minute put them ahead by 1 for the first time. O'Loughlins returned the next 2 points to claim back the lead but the green flag was raised again for the ‘Boro men when goalkeeper Paddy Delaney was deemed to have stepped behind the line after fielding a high ball. O'Loughlin fought back and benefitted from a fortuitous goal of their own on the 50th minute when an Alan Geoghegan long distance effort bounced straight to the net putting the lads 1 point ahead. 1-18 to 2:14. For the remaining 8 minutes it was all Dicksboro and they returned 6 points to the visitors 2 to see out this game. It was a good effort from the lads and a stern test that will serve them well going forward. U16s ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Congratulations to the O’Loughlin Gaels u16 panel who deservedly won the Roinn A Hurling League on Monday evening in Thomastown when the beat Dunnamaggin 2-…to in a pulsating game of hurling.
