CLUB LOTTO WINNER
Great news for u21 star and captain David Burke as his numbers were drawn last Tuesday evening to claim the Lotto prize. Its good news for sure for David and there’s good news for everyone else also as the top prize of €20,000 remains in place for the next draw- It’s the club that keeps on giving!!! . This is the last week for all to have their club memberships registered. Registration must be completed by March 31st and it is important for all players both juvenile and Adult to their memberships up to date as the hurling season hots up.  Renewed memberships can be left into the club bar Thursday through to Sunday and also Tuesday evenings from 8pm. JUNIOR HURLERS
 
Well doe to both Junior teams who claimed first points in round one of their respective leagues at the weekend end over the same opposition. The Junior hurlers put on a top performance to defeat neighbours James Stephens GAA on a scoreline of 4-17 to 0-10 at St. Johns Park on Saturday. Then on Sunday at an equally blustery home venue the Junior a team took maximum points by  scoreline of 1-18 to 2-8. Both teams looked fit and eager and enthralled the support with some very fine passages of ply. Well done to all involved. 
 
YOUTH TEAMS GET GOING
 
This week sees our u16 and minor teams start their league campaigns with first fixtures. Fixtures can be seen on the clubs facebook pages and on the Kilkenny GAA website. Please support these young lads as they put in many hours of preparation and deserve your support.
 
ST KIERANS’ COLLEGE
 
Congratulations to St. Kierans College on winning their 21st All Ireland Colleges title in Semple Stadium against Ard Scoil Ris of Limerick.  The team as always prepared well and included our own Eoin O’Shea in the extended panel. Well done to all involved.

SENIOR FOOTBALL
 
The senior footballers disappointingly exited the Senior football Championship after a well contested replay against Clara on St. Patrick’s Day with a Clara victory by the narrowest of margins
 
ST. PATRICKS DAY PARADE
 
An army of boys and girls from our GAA, handball and Camogie Clubs  marched through the city streets in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade accompanied by mentors and parents in a colourful and entertaining group entry. The group cheered and entertained as they put on exhibition games at intervals throughout the route much to the delight of the large crowds that filled the City’s streets. Chief organizer Stephen McCormack  provided refreshment for the group as the parade ended when they returned to the majestic fields at St. Johns Park.
 
 
JUVENILE CAMOGIE
 
Congratulations to Loretto Junior Camogie team who claimed the All Ireland Camogie title beating Coachford College of Cork. The Loretto team was aided by one of our own in Eva Collins as she formed part of the panel of the new All Ireland Champions. Well done Eva.
 
DUBLIN VISITORS
 
Sunday saw St. Johns park fill with Dublin GAA enthusiasts as clubs from O’Tooles GAA, St Johns, Ballinteer, Na Fianna CLG and Cuala GAA all took on the mighty O’Loughlin Gaels in morning duals preceding the NHL fixture in Nowlan Park. Our u10s and u12s put in the hard yards against Cuala GAA and Na Fianna respectively demonstrating their desire to hurl at the highest level for O’Loughlin Gaels GAA. The u16s hosted St. Johns Ballinteer in a useful challenge before the seniors took on O’Tooles GAA on the main pitch to the delight of all the visiting supporters. Travelling teams and supporters were treated to the usual O’Loughlin Gaels hospitality before all heading to Nowlan Park for the big game. It was a busy morning in the club but as always extra efforts were made to accommodate everyone as our u8s and u6s managed to get in their usual Sunday morning training sessions. Well done to all involved in making it yet another vibrant Sunday morning at St. Johns Park.
 
U10s Host Cuala GAA
 
It was some sight in St. John’s Park on Sunday morning. As the pitches filled with O’Loughlins Teams hosting various Dublin visitors our u10s played their part in a March morning’s festival of hurling. Almost 60 u10 players - 30 Cuala visitors - played out 4 matches under the Spring sunshine with all boys getting full matches. Such was the enthusiasm for hurling one of the players Luke Hanrahan insisted on playing after jetting in earlier from his holidays.  It was a good thing too or the large crowd of supporters wouldn’t have witnessed his sublime reverse handpass in the second match. The skills demonstrated by all players was wide ranging..and innovative as Eoghan O’Brien showed when he flicked the ball up after a winding solo run to 'head' the ball to the net. ( you can't sign him up Jürgen Klopp - he's ours!!).
 
The Cuala CLG support, mentors and players who enjoyed their visit to St. John’s Park, were treated to some top class hurling with some top class hospitality put together by O’Loughlin Gael parents before heading to Nowlan Park to cheer on their County Team. They might agree that the best hurling of the day was played in St. John’s Park.
 
Well done to all the young players and well done too to two debutants, Eirin Griffin and David Shepard who played their very first hurling matches this morning. Keep it up lads..Well done to all involved with u10s....Up the ‘Loughs.
 
 
LONG PUCK
 
A big thanks to our two participants in the Kilkenny County Board Long Puck competition held at Gowran Race Course . Brandon Wall and Joe Leydon represented O’Loughlin Gaels GAA in the u12 and u14 competitions respectively. The two boys as always gave it their all as only young Gaels do and the club is very appreciative of their efforts. Thank you boys.

JUVENILES’ PARADE
Tomorrow (Thursday) will see our young stars from the Hurling, Camogie and Handball Clubs take part in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Each year our young Gaels enjoy the event and entertain onlookers with their enthusiasm and skills demonstrations. Dozens of players will run, march, cheer and play while on route around Kilkenny’s beautiful streets letting everyone know that O’Loughlin Gaels is their club and they’re proud of it!.  Enjoy the day

JUVENILE CAMOGIE
 
St. John's Park was a hive of activity on Saturday morning as O' Loughlin Gaels Camogie training resumed for the coming season. Many new members were welcomed to the club and it was marvellous to see new and familiar faces take to the pitch together. The camogie coffee shop was also very busy and many parents stayed to watch their daughters play, have a coffee and socialise. It was a great start to the season and we look forward to plenty sporting activity in the months ahead.

With Kilkenny hosting Dublin in the final round of the NHL on Sunday O’Loughlin Gaels will be offering safe parking to all supporters. For €5 you can park up your car and enjoy the pre-match banter in the Club’s bar before you make the short walk to Nowlan Park. Juvenile teams will be hosting teams from Dublin also to help get you in the mood for the big match.

A big thanks to John Leahy & Caroline Clifford of the HSE who presented a very informative evening on the subjects of Substance Abuse and Mental Health in our Health & Well Being Talk last Saturday. Members, Players and Executive present all learned from it and already some new ideas have been muted to highlight and deal with such issues in our community. Good work from your local club again.

There’s good news for the girls of St. Johns Parish as Juvenile Camogie returns to the pitches at St. Johns Park. SATURDAY MORNINGS AT 10.30am will see all girls from u6 to u14 take part in regular training sessions run by a large crew of coaches. Parents are invited to stick around and watch how the girls skills are developed and enjoy a sideline chat and visit the Camogie Cafe. O’Loughlin Gaels Camogie is looking forward to another successful season ahead. Enjoy girls.
 
GALWAY VISITORS
 
Coinciding with the NHL fixture at Nowlan Park O’Loughlin Gaels hosted guests from the west over the weekend in a series of challenge games as is part of the GAA clubs ethos of building friendships. Clifden GAA, kilnadeema-Leitrim GAA and St. Thomas’s GAA all enjoyed some O’Loughlin Gaels hospitality in the build up to the big game at Nowlan Park. Clifden GAA were the first to arrive at St. John’s park when they took on our u12’s on Saturday evening. High octane stuff on the field with three games worked up a heathy appetite that the u12 parents were only too happy to cater for. The following morning the u12’s were out again when Kilnadeema-Leitrim took up the challenge with three more highly competitive games making it over 70 very happy u12s players getting game time over a march weekend. The visiting party and u16s contingents from St. Thomas’s of Galway all met in the Club’s kitchen to enjoy more O’Loughlin Gaels hospitality and enjoy the pre-match banter. St. Thomas’s had also taking on their u16 counterparts from O’Loughlins in an energy sapping encounter. Plenty of action for our young teams already and new friends made…not bad going for early March. Well done to all involved and thanks to all the parents for their help.
 
LEINSTER CHAMPION
 
Some good news on the handball front.... O'Loughlin Gaels Handball's John Morrissey and partner Noel Doherty representing Kilkenny won the over 35's Leinster doubles final at the weekend in Laois against Carlow opposition in a thrilling game that lasted over 2 hours. Great news for Kilkenny Handball and great news for O'Loughin Gaels Handball. Congratulations.

HEALTH & WELLBEING
On Saturday evening next, 5th March at 7.30 until 9pm in the club, we will hold a Club Health and Wellbeing information evening entitled - O'Loughlin Gaels GAA Club, Kilkenny, Ireland and O'Loughlin Gaels Camogie Club - Promoting a Healthy Club for all Players and Members. John Leahy, HSE Drug Education Officer, will speak about Substance Abuse - Alcohol and Drugs, and Caroline Clifford, HSE Mental Health Services, will speak about suicide, depression and self-harm awareness. Q&A followed by tea/biscuits. All players from U 14 to Senior, managers, selectors, mentors, parents, family & executive members are welcome.
 
NHL PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
On Sunday next Kilkenny will host Galway in the National Hurling League at Nowlan Park (2pm Throw-in). As always O’Loughlin Gals will play their part in making sure the event runs smoothly. Our juveniles will be about selling programs to the expected large crowd., and St. Johns Park will provide convenient parking for all visitors. Parking is charged at €5 per car so make sure to tell your friends. The club will provide teas and sandwiches plus the bar will be open all day. O’Loughlin Gaels Bar & Lounge is the closest facility to Nowlan Park to park up safely and enjoy the banter that a big match occasion brings. Spread the word.
 
JUVENILE TRAINING
Juvenile training for u6 to u12s continues in St. Johns Park each Sunday morning from 10.30am. So far there has been big attendance and lots of good hurling. There’s been new faces and more are welcome.  A player can register any Sunday morning with the respective manager so please do so soon even if you only intend to get involved later in the summer. Registration for insurance purposes is so important. This weekend will see some teams host visiting teams for the first games of the juvenile season so if your son is involved please come and support him and his team mates.

There was no winner of last week’s Lotto. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 9, 13 and the bonus number was: 2.  Tickets can be bought from the usual selling agents or by asking at the clubhouse bar. Remember – if you’re not in; you can’t win the jackpot prize of €20,000.

Please note that Club Registration is due. Renewed memberships can be left into the club bar Thursday through to Sunday and also Tuesday evenings from 8pm. It is important that all players memberships are registered now to be included in the club insurances before they train and play etc. All membership details will be posted on the clubs facebook and Website. SENIOR FOOTBALL
 
The seniors continue their participation in the Senior Football League with a home fixture versus Clara on Saturday afternoon.  Your support is always welcomed.
 
 
COLLEGES LEINSTER FINAL
 
St. Kieran’s College were the victors in a hard fought Leinster Colleges Final with CBS Kilkenny on Saturday last. O’Loughlin Gaels had very good representation on the day through both panels and we say we’re proud of you all. There’s is a back door for the vanquished so there’s still a chance these boys could come up against each other later in the All-Ireland series. Best wishes to both teams as they go forward and well done to St. Kieran’s College.
 
U14s FOOTBALL WIN
 
Well done to our Football u14 team who had a comprehensive win over James Stephens on Saturday evening at the Kells Road in the Roinn A Football League. Two teams gave it their all and some fine football was produced entertaining a decent support. Well done to all involved. The lads are due to take on Graigue Ballycallan in the next round at the weekend so as always please show them your support.

O’Loughlin Gaels GAA bar opens Thursdays through to Sundays and Tuesday evenings from 8pm with a growing ‘congregation’ as Paddy Greene and his team offer great value drinks and a great service that includes updates on what’s going on plus a few wise words. Tuesday night is Lotto night, Thursday evening sees the regular poker night; Friday, Saturday  & Sunday hosts families and neighbours with Sunday evenings now adding Shanghai darts and quiz night to the entertainment. Join in – you’re all welcome…. You don’t have to be a member of the club to enjoy the now renowned O’Loughlin Gaels GAA hospitality.
 
JUVENILE CAMOGIE
 
There’s good news for the girls of St. Johns Parish as Juvenile Camogie returns to the pitches at St. Johns Park. SATURDAY MORNINGS AT 10.30am will see all girls from u6 to u14 take part in regular training sessions run by a large crew of coaches. Parents are invited to stick around and watch how the girls skills are developed and enjoy a sideline chat. O’Loughlin Gaels Camogie is looking forward to another successful season ahead.
