O'Loughlins u8s held their last session of the year in St.Johns Park on Sunday morning with an exhibition blitz of games viewed by parents and friends. The panel divided into 4 teams of red, green, blue and white and played 3 group games each of an exceptionally high standard. Drop shots, blocks, hooks, strikes and shot stopping were some of the skills that this group of lucky parents were fortunate to witness. All games were so competitive any of the teams could have came out on top. After some totting up team red played team blue in the cup final and team green played team white in the shield. Both finals were high octane with every player giving 100%. The morning ended with each player receiving a club certificate awarded for their efforts this past season. Captains of each team were picked on consistent work rate throughout the year and each received a prize. Luke Quigley, Michael Lambert, Conor Murphy and Darragh Powell all received their prizes with Darragh as captain of the winning team received the coveted O'Loughlins Gaels Mug.
Next Sunday O'Loughlin Gaels u8s travel to Kilmacud Crimes GAA in Dublin for their final tournament of 2015. Best of luck boys. Eoin Lawlor O'Loughlin Gaels u8s season is drawing to a close but not without a big push for hurling excellence. In 2 weeks time these warriors head to Kilmacud Crokes for an end of season u8s tournament competing with teams from.all over the country. A panel of 30 players has been preparing well each Sunday morning at St. Johns Park. They've been pushing themselves hard the last few weeks in preparation for this event perfecting such skills as striking, jab lifting, shoulder on shoulder ground striking and free taking. The boys are in good shape and have really built on all their efforts over this last year. In their final preparations for this event the boys will play an internal blitz next Sunday morning at St. Johns park at 10am where the panel will be divided into 4 teams and they will be pitted against each other. Eoin Lawlor Our u8s travelled with their u9s comrades to Roanmore GAA on Waterford City for their annual ground hurling tournament. The boys took the short but noisy bus trip down the M9 and played three teams on what was perfect Autumn afternoon last Saturday. Iniscara of Cork, an Ghaeltacht of Waterford and Douglas also of Cork were the challengers. After a ropey start (probably due to bus fatigue!!) the boys gathered themselves together and got on with the business of showing everybody that the best teams come from Kilkenny and the best team is O'Loughlins u8s. It was the quintessential performance..good old fashioned hurling. Pulling on the ball first time, doubling on it, pulling in the air and one touch and strike in the air. All these skills were demonstrated by our boys and the speed at which the moved the ball was the catylist for their emphatic wins. First up was An Ghaeltacht..this was a fierce battle..with both teams locked at 2 goals apiece at half time. Greg Kelly who had a giant of of a day scored a sublime point at a tight angle after super control to seal the teams win. Darragh Powell and JJ Mooney here were brilliant with Darragh close on goal on a number of occasions. Tadgh Crowley manned the goal in this game and you could say his reflex stops and long clearances were essential to the teams success. A brilliant team performance. Next up was Douglas from Cork City. Always a good contest when clubs from these counties meet and our lads hit the ground running as soon as the ball was thrown in..Eoghan O'Brien broke the ball on the throw in and Stephen Butler moved it into space whipped into the waiting Zach Evans who short passed it to Luke Hanrahan and doubled on it to the back of the net. The ultimate team score. That set their stall and the boys went on to lead 4 goals to none at the half. JJ Mooney, Eoghan O'Brien and Luke Hanrahan adding those. The second half saw changes to ensure all boys got equal time and more goals followed. Luke Quigley gave a relentless display in defence and Cormac Wall was at his very very best. The boys ended up with a very impressive win here of 6-1 The final game of the afternoon was against Inniscara of Cork. The boys carried the momentum into this final game and fought hard. Tired limbs and the hot sun didn't deter our guys from driving on from their earlier performances. Daniel Bryrne and Jack Morrissey were powerful hitters of the sliotar and Michael Lambert as always was a rock in defence all day. Tadgh Crowley got his chance outfield and was first to every ball that came his way and sent it to the forwards with interest every time. A superb drive by Tadgh ended with a well struck ball from the hard working JJ Mooney to rattle the back of the net. Zach Evans took a hard knock while playing in the forwards but in the true spirit of this great team just got up and on with it helping Luke Hanrahan to another goal before he finished out his day. Cormac Wall was again emence at midfield and Luke Quigley left the field of play to a deserved ovation from the crowd attending as he was arguably the player of the day. The final match of the day ended with another great win for these lads with a healthy score of 5 - 1 Well done to all the boys representing O'Loughlin Gaels well. They showed great heart and determination throughout and their efforts were rewarded with some very good results. Big thanks to Roanmore GAA for a great day. The energy the boys expelled on the field of play was carried onto the bus for the short trip back to O'Loughlins..seems like there is no slowing these guys down! Well done boys. Eoin Lawlor Last Saturday O'Loughlins u8s made their annual trip to Palmerstown to participate in Dicksboros' u8s Charity Tournament held in aid of the O'Neill Centre. Over 30 of the O'Loughlins panel took part in an excellent day making up two teams to compete in two groups. Both teams did exceptionally well their efforts were rewarded with wins, losses and draws. Brilliant challenges and some top notch scores were on display throughout the day. Conor Farrell provided a well taken goal after a sublime pass by Daniel McCormack to see that game end level with Clara. Tadgh Crowley kept his goal clean with some super reflex saves and newcomer Conor Coyne, Mathew Howe and Ryan Holohan all worked very hard to name but a few from Team Ban. On Team Glas Zach Evans, Patrick Iwasuik and Sean Morrissey stood out with a massive performance by the ever improving Kirrills Doubvjenko which contributed to wins over Clara and Gowran. Overall 16 teams participated in what was another big day for these lads. More games to come and a seasons end tournament to take part in in Dublin next month. Well done boys. Keep up the good work. Eoin Lawlor O'Loughlin Gaels u8s hosted Craanford GAA club for 3 15minute mini matches as a stop over on their way to Thurles for the u21 All-Ireland hurling semi-finals on Saturday last. As numbers were limited 15 u8s represented O'Loughlin Gaels. From the off and true to current form our boys were relentless. Excellent skills were displayed by both sets of players showing that the game of hurling is in healthy stead going into the future. Eoghan O'Brien, Luke Hanrahan, Greg Kelly and Michael Lambert were power houses throughout the afternoon laying the foundations for an overall team performance. Conor Murphy, Eoghan O'Callaghan, Cormac Wall and Darragh Powell resisted the pressure applied by a tough Cranford team. Kirills Doubvijenko, Sean Morrissey and Charlie Roberts worked tirelessly to contribute to the teams success. Daniel Byrne and Daniel McCormack both struck the sliotar with ease moving it forward at every occasion. The score of the day, and one that amazed all present was from the brilliant Stephen Butler. A pick up on the run by Eoghan O'Brien, shifting two tackles and a high looping cross on his left was met in the sir by a deft touch from Stephens hurl and rattled the back of the net. It wasn't clear whether Eoin Larkin or Richie Power scored Kilkenny's decisive goal in Croke Park last week but there was no doubt that this one was score by Stephen Butler. Well done again boys. The lads continue with more games and prepare for a tournament in Ballycallan on Sunday. . Eoin Lawlor O'Loughlin u8s keep up their good form of late and participated in Ballycallan GAAs annual field day. The boys were super again as they took to field against teams from Tullaroan, Gowran and hosts Ballycallan. Good hurling talent was evident on all teams and our O'Loughlins boys were immense in their challenges. Luke Quigley, Darragh Powell and Conor Murphy were sold as always..Daniel Byrne impressed with some fierce tackling and Cormac Wall fought hard throughout. Daniel McCormack, Captain Stephen Butler and Greg Kelly each made fine contributions as did Luke Hanrahan and Eoghan O'Brien. O'Loughlins defence was shored up with a stoic performance by the very consistent Michael Lambert. The teams mentors and parents are very proud of the boys in the manner in which they performed..the skills and scores demonstrated were as good as seen anywhere at any level. More games ahead for these guys and the u8s panel. A strong representation of O'Loughlins u8s headed to Abbeyleix at the invitation of St. Lazarians GAA club for their annual u8s blitz. Go games rules applied where all players got plenty of game time. This was a complete performance by these young lads who keep impressing with every game they play.
Pitted against Naomh Eamonn, Clough Ballacolla of Laois and Freshford in their group the boys powered their way through the first part of the morning. All teams were competitive and skillful but our boys seemed to muster up that extra gear each time to come out on top in all their games topping their group to set up a final encounter with group 2 winners Galmoy. A full panel effort meant it possible for all players to have ample rest time aswell as game time ensuring that they could enjoy their day while been competitive. After a light lunch and refreshment the boys and their large support headed to pitch 1 for the days final match. This was a cracking game that both teams were up for and the deadlock wasn't broken until Stephen Butler hit the net late in the first half. Eoghan O'Brien soon settled the O'Loughlins nerves with a fine point from play. Scores were swapped by both side before the half time whistle. O'Loughlins had the slight advantage with it all still to do in the second half. A few changes in personnel to make sure all get game time and our boys took the remainder of the game by the scruff of the neck. They hit the ground running with a couple scores from Darragh Powell followed by the sweetest of ground strokes from the brilliant Luke Hanrahan. Daniel McCormack tapped over two beautiful points from midfield before Eoghan O'Brien hit the net for a second time after great work from Luke Quigley, Cormac Wall and Sean Falsey. Sean's cousin Michael Lambert held the defence together from centre back and looks to follow and maybe step into the boots of our own great Brian Hogan. Greg Kelly was superb in goal and even managed to score a goal with a mighty clearance the length of the pitch. Zach Evans, JJ Mooney and David Balfour all had fine individual performances with the latter bagging two fine goals in the group stage. When the final whistle sounded the players immediately recognised the efforts of their opponents and offered respectful handshakes all round. Well done boys. This was a super day for this group and their winners medals were well deserved for all the effort they have been putting in. It was a day also where these lads have become a team showing great on field support for each other and plenty of banter amongst the group throughout the day. A massive thanks to Abbeyleix St Lazarians GAA for a superb day. It ran as timetabled and without a hitch making for a thoroughly enjoyable day. The u8s take a short break while O'Loughlins Summer Camp takes place. Next training will be Sunday August the 17th at 10.30am. More games and tournaments are scheduled. Eoin Lawlor O'Loughlins u8s hosted the return visit of their Ballyragget counterparts last Thursday evening. This was an opportunity for this years u7s to show their metal mid-way through this summers season. The game was set up for 12 a side, 2 twenty minute halves with the first been ground hurling only. Some outstanding performances by players from both teams meant that the large support on the sideline were kept intrigued throughout. O'Loughlins newcomer Eli O'Dwyer showed how quickly you can make an impact on a team when you practice at every opportunity. He was outstanding and put himself through some tough tackles. Conor Farrell carries on in the strong line of brothers who have already made their mark on older teams in the club with two fine goals. David Balfour too made the scoring sheet after some very unselfish play from Conor Murphy and David McCormack at midfield. Sean O'Neill always looked eager to be on the ball and gave a brilliant performance from goal when called upon. This was a fine overall display for a group of young players wishing to play their part in what has so far been a great year for the O'Loughlins u8s panel. Panel: Conor Murphy, Cormac Wall, JJ Mooney, Ameer Zakaria, Conor Farrell, James Holohan, Danial McCormick, Charlie Roberts, Sean O'Neill, Cillian Daly, Sean Falsey, Luke Lawlor, Ena Lawlor, David Balfour, Eli O'Dwyer, Tadgh Kavanagh Dewberry, Ryan Houlihan. Eoin Lawlor On a beautiful sunny evening at St.Johns park the O'Loughlins u8s were out again..there's no stopping these guys, their appetite for the game increases as the summer rolls on. On this occasion it was neighbours Clara who took up the challenge. The close proximity of these these clubs pitted friend against friend and cousin against cousin but all the niceties were reserved for after the games
2 teams, 2 games and everyone gets to play. That's the ethos of our juvenile games and the happiness of these young lads is obvious from their performances. Excellent skills were on display again by both clubs it must be said. If you wanted to see ground striking it was there, rising, blocking hooking and strong tackles..all these skills were there in abundance. We had goals, long range points, short distance points, side line cuts and all executed with perfection. Again parents and all onlookers were impressed by the standard of hurling on offer and all must agree that this group of players are very special. With their tails up and loads of momentum behind them they face a visit from Ballyragget next Thursday evening. Dicksboro, Freshford, Thomastown to mention but a few are all queueing up to take on our lads...and our boys are loving it. Keep it up lads! Panel: Luke Hanrahan, Conor Murphy, Eoghan O'Brien, Eoghan O'Callaghan, Cormac Wall, Darragh Powell, Kirills Doubvijenko, Conor Farrell, Sean Morrissey, Daniel McCormack, Charlie Roberts, Sean O'Neill, Stephen Butler, Greg Kelly, Sean Falsey, Zach Evans, Ena Lawlor, David Balfour, Luke Quigley, Grace Sheridan, Eli O'Dwyer, Tadhg Kavanagh Dewberry.
