Our u8s travelled with their u9s comrades to Roanmore GAA on Waterford City for their annual ground hurling tournament. The boys took the short but noisy bus trip down the M9 and played three teams on what was  perfect Autumn afternoon last Saturday. Iniscara of Cork, an Ghaeltacht of Waterford and Douglas also of Cork were the challengers. After a ropey start (probably due to bus fatigue!!) the boys gathered themselves together and got on with the business of showing everybody that the best teams come from Kilkenny and the best team is O'Loughlins u8s. It was the quintessential performance..good old fashioned hurling. Pulling on the ball first time, doubling on it, pulling in the air and one touch and strike in the air. All these skills were demonstrated by our boys and the speed at which the moved the ball was the catylist for their emphatic wins.

First up was An Ghaeltacht..this was a fierce battle..with both teams locked at 2 goals apiece at half time. Greg Kelly who had a giant of of a day scored a sublime point at a tight angle after super control to seal the teams win. Darragh Powell and JJ Mooney here were brilliant with Darragh close on goal on a number of occasions. Tadgh Crowley manned the goal in this game and you could say his reflex stops and long clearances were essential to the teams success. A brilliant team performance.

Next up was Douglas from Cork City. Always a good contest when clubs from these counties meet and our lads hit the ground running as soon as the ball was thrown in..Eoghan O'Brien broke the ball on the throw in and Stephen Butler moved it into space whipped into the waiting Zach Evans who short passed it to Luke Hanrahan and doubled on it to the back of the net. The ultimate team score. That set their stall and the boys went on to lead 4 goals to none at the half. JJ Mooney, Eoghan O'Brien and Luke Hanrahan adding those. The second half saw changes to ensure all boys got equal time and more goals followed. Luke Quigley gave a relentless display in defence and Cormac Wall was at his very very best. The boys ended up with a very impressive win here of 6-1

The final game of the afternoon was against Inniscara of Cork. The boys carried the momentum into this final game and fought hard. Tired limbs and the hot sun didn't deter our guys from driving on from their earlier performances. Daniel Bryrne and Jack Morrissey were powerful hitters of the sliotar and Michael Lambert as always was a rock in defence all day. Tadgh Crowley got his chance outfield and was first to every ball that came his way and sent it to the forwards with interest every time. A superb drive by Tadgh ended with a well struck ball from the hard working JJ Mooney to rattle the back of the net. Zach Evans took a hard knock while playing in the forwards but in the true spirit of this great team just got up and on with it helping Luke Hanrahan to another goal before he finished out his day. Cormac Wall was again emence at midfield and Luke Quigley left the field of play to a deserved ovation from the crowd attending  as he was arguably the player of the day. The final match of the day ended with another great win for these lads with a healthy score of 5 - 1

Well done to all the boys representing O'Loughlin Gaels well. They showed great heart and determination throughout and their efforts were rewarded with some very good results. Big thanks to Roanmore GAA for a great day. The energy the boys expelled on the field of play was carried onto the bus for the short trip back to O'Loughlins..seems like there is no slowing these guys down! Well done boys.

Last Saturday O'Loughlins u8s made their annual trip to Palmerstown to participate in Dicksboros' u8s Charity Tournament held in aid of the O'Neill Centre. Over 30 of the O'Loughlins panel took part in an excellent day making up two teams to compete in two groups. Both teams did exceptionally well their efforts were rewarded with wins, losses and draws. Brilliant challenges and some top notch scores were on display throughout the day. Conor Farrell provided a well taken goal after a sublime pass by Daniel McCormack to see that game end level with Clara. Tadgh Crowley kept his goal clean with some super reflex saves and newcomer Conor Coyne, Mathew Howe and Ryan Holohan all worked very hard to name but a few from Team Ban. On Team Glas Zach Evans, Patrick Iwasuik and Sean Morrissey stood out with a massive performance by the ever improving Kirrills Doubvjenko which contributed to wins over Clara and Gowran. Overall 16 teams participated in what was another big day for these lads. More games to come and a seasons end tournament to take part in in Dublin next month. Well done boys. Keep up the good work.
