U14 Captain David Fogarty accepts the Roinn A Football County Championship Trophy from Willie Dempsey -Official Kilkenny GAA Chairman Bord na n'Òg - U14s ARE ROINN A FOOTBALL COUNTY CHAMPIONS 2015 A brilliant performance this evening by our u14 panel who were crowned County Champions after a win over Danesfort GAA in Larchfield. The wind, rain and slippery underfoot conditions should not have been conducive to good football but these young players from both clubs showed that there is ability in Kilkenny too when it comes to playing with the big ball. Good scores all round but the O'Loughlin's lads were more dangerous whe...n they got around the Danesfort goal area. They hit 7 goals in total and were it not for the heroics of the Danesfort keeper surely more goals were for the taken. Against the wind in the first half the O'Loughlins forwards hit 4 goals before Danesfort could get any grasp on the game but when they did they did manage to claw back to be within a single point at half time. With the strong wind in O'Loughlins favour in the second half however the ball was pitched firmly in the heart of the Danesfort defence and the pressure was too much from O'Loughlins who finished out the game in a scoring spree. The lads now go forward to Fèile na Peil later in the summer and we wish them and the u14 management well. Picture shows the victorious O'Loughlin Gaels and Captain, David Fogarty receiving the cup from Bord na n'Óg Chairman Willie Dempsey. FÈILE HOPES ON TRACK... Two fine performances by our u14s tonight see O'Loughlin Gaels advance to the final stages of this years Paddy Grace u14 Féile scheduled for Sunday next with the eventual winners the opportunity to represent their club in the at the 2015 Regional FÈILE Finals. They played out two qualifier games tonight in St.Kierans College against stiff opposition in Lisdowney and Dicksboro GAA. Lisdowney were first up and although the game started well with a well taken Mikey Wallace goal that was the only goal our boys were going to get against a good defence and an excellent Lisdowney keeper. But the hurling guile of Conor Kelly ensured that the points kept coming for O'Loughlins...Conor throwing over 7 of his own with the powerful Ethan Kerwick (5), Jack Sheridan and Mikey Wallace (1 each)..accounting for the rest. Lisdowney did attack too but strong performances from Harry Bland, Mathew Hogan and Peter McNamara stifled any worthwhile attack. Two goal chances too were well stopped by the alert goalkeeping of Ronan Lavelle. The second game became the group decider as Dicksboro had by now disposed of Lisdowney's challenge. The game started off with both teams showing no quarter and it took almost 5 mins for either team to register the first score. It came from a ground stroke from from the bas of Conor Kelly's hurl as the 'boro keeper failed to deal with a high ball. That seemed to give Conor the appetite for more as he bagged himself 2 more before the game was out - both assisted by the nimble Jack Sheridan. Jack helped himself to a point of his own, as did centre back Jamie Young who was outstanding all evening. Mathew Hogan's work rate tonight earned him a contender for player of the match, with Niall Higgins, Jake Hickey, Peter McNamara and Declan Coffey all putting in solid games. Dicksboro rarely threatened the O'Loughlins goal in what was a dominant performance by our boys. Mikey Wallace can be accredited too to one of the more unusual goals ever scored on the St. Kierans pitches...a deflection from the 'boro keeper headed to the net!!…..Like the rest of the St. Johns contingent present, Mikey 'Ronaldo' Wallace is looking forward to the weekend. http://www.kilkennygaa.ie/fixtures?compGroupID=27065&orderTBCLast=Y
The u14 Championship is scheduled to start 13th September 11.00 am with a match against the winner of the match a week earlier between Dunamaggin and Dicksboro O'Loughlin Gaels under 14 team came up against deserving finalists Erin's own of comer in this final played in a blustery cohany . Having been given an early scare against lisdowney in the semi , these young men were not going to allow that happen again and they were the team that came out of the blocks with all guns blazing . They were first to every ball early on and took a deserving early lead with 2 cracking goals from Jamie Ryan topped up with a goal from conor heary who kept the score board ticking over with 5 further points and conor kelly knocking over a couple more. Erin's own had beaten the village to earn their place in the final and have a never give up attitude . They recovered from the blistering pace set by o'loughlins to get a goal and go in at half time trailing but still in the game . 3:08 to 1:03 The lads knew not to fall asleep against this strong Erin's own team and the first 10 minutes of the second half yielded few scores , but excellent hurling from both teams . The breakthrough score from o'loughlin's came from David Fogarty following an excellent passage of play from star player Sean Kenny. Sean caught the ball and took on several players before unselfishly offloading to David who still had work to do and managed a skilful flick past the keeper . That seemed to be the score to allow our lads push ahead and they finished out in style to win in convincing fashion. Captain Mickey butler lifted the trophy to rapturous and deserving applause from the big crowd. Well done lads , it was a performance fitting for a final . hon the boys ! The best of luck to the u14 lads who take on Erin's own of comer in the u14 Roinn A final in Conahy at 12 noon on Saturday 18th. We know they will give it their best so please come out and support the lads ! The under 14s recovered from a blistering start from lisdowney to take the honours and move on to a final that will take place in the coming weeks. A bright sunny morning saw a big crowd attend this semi final in Freshford and the young men from lisdowney started the faster . A goal and five points without reply could have been ominous for most teams but this u14 team have been through a lot together and once they get their grove it's a thing of hurling beauty . A fine goal from young David fogerty and the teams went in with oloughlins only 3 points down . And sure enough , this fine team put themselves in front within 5 minutes of the restart and never again looked vulnerable . A strongly taken goal from conor heary put them ahead and they pushed ever onwards . They will need to start fresher the next day , but with a team that never says die you always stand a chance . Well done lads ! The U14 hurlers of O’Loughlin Gaels and Erin’s Own contested the Roinn A League final in Jenkinstown on Thursday evening last. Two false starts in as many weeks meant an eager crowd arrived in numbers in the hope that they would finally get to see these two fine teams go head to head. Maurice Nolan’s boys were out of the blocks early and often. A defence splitting move saw half back Joe Murphy combine with the menacing Dacel Fwamba (Captain) who in turn fed full forward Conor Kelly. Kelly blasted to the net, the green was raised and the Continent was off and running. Wing man Sean Kenny was lively all evening and put his name on the sheet within the first four minutes with a brilliant individual point. Erin’s Own appeared rattled but to their credit – they kept battling. But there was more pain to come. The importance of chasing and harrying could never be overstated and it was this relentless work rate that was to yield the next two crucial scores of the game. Captain Fwamba led by example and closed down the Comer goalie, as he tried to emerge from his parallelogram. He finished the spilled ball to the net and the roar of approval went high into the evening air. Jamie Ryan seemed inspired and did likewise minutes later. Space was at a premium, so Jamie soccered to the net to put ten points between the teams with five minutes on the clock. Luke Hogan followed up with a fabulous individual point – his Tipp roots plain for all to see. A Conor Heary free rounded off what was a devastating opening ten minutes by the boys in white and green. Castlecomer deserve great credit for the manner of their comeback. Three points on the spin helped settle their nerves but they were to suffer another setback with the concession of yet another goal. Dacel Fwamba made an incisive run and pulled first time on the sliotar to shake the net again. Both teams then shared six points evenly (OLG: Kenny, Kelly and Heary) to bring the first half to a close. H/T: O’Loughlin Gaels 4-06, Erin’s Own 0-07 The second half saw the introduction of David Fogarty, Jack Sheridan, Matt Russell, Declan Coffey and Odhran Lawlor. All were lively and played their part for the team. Conor Heary took up where he left off by pointing a dead ball to increase the St John’s Parish Boys lead to twelve. Comer’s star players then began to shine. Players such as Jack Buggy, Kevin Brennan and Lee Holden in particular caught the eye. But Conor Heary was prominent at this stage scoring from both the ground and out of the hand. Erin’s Own were fighting for their lives and mustered up a gallant final fling to reduce the ever widening deficit. They added 1-05 (1-04 from play) in the last quarter but were undone by a Barry Lawlor goal that settled matters once and for all. Jamie Malone commanded his square well and his distribution was excellent. The full back line of Collins, Butler and Kearns was miserly in defence and cool under pressure. The half back line of Hogan, Young and Murphy defended and attacked with equal diligence. The midfield pairing of Murphy and Baird battled hard for supremacy throughout. The half forward line of Heary, Lawlor and Kenny made telling contributions on the scoreboard and from general play. The full forward line of Fwamba, Kelly and Ryan led from the front for the entire sixty minutes. F/T: O’Loughlin Gaels 5-12, Erin’s Own 1-14 Jamie Malone, John Collins, Mikey Butler, Jack Kearns, Luke Hogan 0-1, Jamie Young, Joe Murphy, Oisin Murphy, Sean Baird 0-1, Conor Heary 0-5 (4f’s), Barry Lawlor 1-0, Sean Kenny 0-2, Dacel Fwamba 2-01, Conor Kelly 1-02, Jamie Ryan 1-0, Subs used: David Fogarty, Jack Sheridan, Matt Russell, Declan Coffey, Odhran Lawlor. Panellists: Jay Meagher, Fiachra O’Callaghan, Jake Fahy O’Loughlin Gaels would like to congratulate the U14 team on their prestigious win and wish them well for the Championship. We would also like to sincerely thank Maurice Nolan (manager) and his team of Michael Nolan, Sheamie Cummins, Bryan Skehan and Brian Kelly for all their hard work. |
