The u8s and u10s played two Gaelic Football games last night against St. Martins of Muckalee at a very pleasant St. Johns Park. Big numbers and plenty of goals entertained the supporting parents and family from both teams on what was a very enjoyable evening. Picture shows Eoin Mulhearne with a selection of our u8s & u10 stars getting a close look at 'little' Sam McGuire Cup won by Eoin and the Kilkenny Senior Football team last month. Well done to our budding footballers and thanks to Eoin for bringing along the cup.
Great day today at the u10 /u11 Michael Laffan Memorial in Glynn Barntown GAA Club. Thanks to the organisers for such a well run event. As you can see our lads loved it. U10s Just Rewards for Hard Work O'Loughlin Gaels v The Village. Its simple..if you work hard, practice often, give 100 % commitment at training, respect your team mates and love the game ..then you perform better. These guys make it look simple and often hurl like it comes natural to them but to be fair its because the really work at it..follow their drills and put their skills into practice at training and in the various greens around St. Johns parish. Tonight against The Village they hurled liked demons...they relished playing in St Johns Park in front of their parents, aunts uncles grandparents and supporters and they know that hard work pays off...and tonight the reaped the rewards of their hard work. They look forward now to a busy few weeks of games ahead. Well done and keep up the good work. The u10s got off to a flyer tonight in the Go Games series with an excellent performance in St. Johns Park against The Village. The boys commitment and energy was very evident in the way they excelled throughout the game. Kevin Waldron dictated the play from the heart of defence aided by Brandon Wall, Harry Roberts and Tadgh Crowley. Ollie Duncan, Fionn Lawlor and Josh Hynes pulled the strings in Midfield. Up front Cian Nolan, Orestas Balsys, Ruairi Galway... and Jamie Kenny were outstanding. Philip Phelan manned ably between the posts and did very well under the slippy conditions. Michael Lambert, Aaron Maher, Luke Quigley and Osín Farrell were all on song when called upon....with Aaron getting two fantastic scores late into the match. Whether the match would go ahead at all was in doubt when the skies opened up and hailstones rained down. The picture shows the boys in the 'tunnel' (equipment shed) before the game as it rained when Osín Farrell was on song again and led the boys in rousing rendition of Amhrán na bFhiann. The summer ahead already looks brighter! These eager lads and the rest of the squad will play more games on Saturday and Sunday and over the next few weeks. Great work boys. Osín and boys are on song... O’Loughlin Gaels would like to pass on sincere congrats to our boys U10’s who won the prestigious St Mary’s Shield in Clonmel on Saturday last. They were pitted against Ballyboden St Enda’s, St Mary’s Clonmel (hosts), Mount Sion, Clonea Power and Kilmacud Crokes. Well done to the following players who did the Club proud on the day: Alex Sheridan, Evan O’Neill, Michael Butler, Kieran Delaney, Gerard Delaney, Jack Aylmer, Finn Hogan, Ollie Duncan, Kevin Waldron, Kevin O’Connor, Tadhg O’Meara, Mark Holohan, Arron Grogan, Harry O’Grady and Cian Farrell. Well done boys and keep up the good work. Our Under 10’s squad had a great day in Dublin on Sunday last. Sean Hogan contacted this reporter to say the boys took a bus up to see their old pals in Kilmacud Crokes. They played four games and won them all! Then it was back on the bus in order to take their seats in Croker to see the ferocious battle between Kilkenny and Limerick. Our U10’s got to see their Club heroes Mark Kelly and Brian Hogan up close in what was an unforgettable match. This is the sixth year of the camp and it continues to grow in popularity each year, with 160 children taking part over the two weeks last summer. The key words associated with the camp are fun, enjoyment, participation and skill development. Niall Bergin and his team of qualified GAA coaches work hard each year to create and implement a diverse programme aimed at developing the basic skills of hurling/camogie, gaelic football, rounders and handball in a fun-filled, friendly and energetic environment. Each morning the groups will work on developing the skills of each game through a range of drills and activities. In the afternoon the children will use these skills in mini-games where the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment. An exciting part of each week for the children is always the visit of a number of inter-county hurling, camogie and football stars who chat to the children about skill development and lifestyle as well as posing for photos and signing numerous jerseys, hurls, helmets and even arms!! · The camp is open to all O’Loughlin Gaels club members, boys and girls aged 5-13 years. · Each child will receive a quality sports pack with O’Loughlin Gaels gear. · Camp begins at 10am with lunch from 12-12.30pm and finishes up at 2.30pm. · We are really lucky to have the use of such great facilities in St. John’s Park with three pitches, a wall ball, two handball alleys and an indoor hall – which saves us from the sometimes unpredictable Irish weather!! · The camp costs €60 per child for one week or €85 for two weeks. One sports pack per child included in this price. · The dates for this year’s camp are: Week 1: Tuesday August 5th – Saturday August 9th Week 2: Monday August 11th – Friday August 15th Application forms are available from club underage management, in the clubhouse itself, Kearns butchers, JJ Cullen butchers, St. John’s Quay Library and on the club website www.oloughlingaels.gaa.ie.
