U21s CHAMPIONSHIP
O'Loughlin Gaels 1-10 to 1-16 James Stephens A strong performance from James Stephens u21s put paid to O'Loughlins hopes of retaining this title. A good surge towards the end of the first half saw the lads go to the break 3 points down and looking the stronger. However an explosive restart from the opposition saw them take a 1-10 to 0-5 lead within 7minutes and the chase became a lot more difficult. Thanks to a late Sean Bolger goal (free) the lead was reduced to 5 points with 10mins to go but the Village took the next two points to keep the lead at arms length and saw out the game well. It was a good job by the Village lads and they go forward to this years Northern Final. The O'Loughlins supporters left Clara disappointed but knowing that this predominantly young panel will be back again next year for more.
MINOR CAMOGIE ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS
O’Loughlin Gaels 4-9 to 2-6 Clara
O' Loughlin Gaels minor team powered to the Roinn C Championship this weekend with a gutsy win over a fine Clara team. 2 weeks previously this group of girls had been beaten in the league final by the same opposition. 5 girls were missing from the panel due to injury and absence but this did not defer the girls from O Loughlins. They were rocked before the game started by the forced withdrawal due to injury of the most improved player of the season- Ailbhe Galwey- but this disaster only seemed to spur the girls on more.
There was a strong wind in the first half and the defence was under huge pressure. They fought bravely and only conceded 1 goal where as in the league final, by half time they were 4 goals down at the same stage.
It would be wrong to point out anyone of the defence because they were all heroic in this effort. Fowards usually take the awards but in this case the display by the backs will go down in club history as one of the greatest displays by a unit in a long time.
Half time came and O'Loughlins were 4 points down.
Calmness and rest in the dressing room ensued and local observers could see the steely determination in these girls eyes as they emerged for the second half. Within 5 mins they had it back to level thanks to a goal from Edel Bomber Mulholland. The net shook for a few minutes after her rocket and spectators were glad they weren't in goals . After 10mins they were 5 points ahead but the Clara girls brought it back to within 1 point with 15mins to go.
Then the O' Loughlins girls took off with goals from Leah Lanigan, Edel Mulholland and Nyah Egan. They emerged victorious with a rousing victory. The manner of the win doesn't show the intensity that both teams brought to this match. This observer felt the battle was more Roinn A than anything. It was a credit to both teams and particularly the referee who let the game flow.
The girls from O' Loughlins were congratulated by all but particularly by their team mates with phones hopping from France and Germany to celebrate the big day
Well done to all concerned.

SHANE RUNS FOR CHARITY
Minor/ senior player Shane Mahony is organising a Charity Run in side of The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland next month in the Castle Park. This is a great cause and Shane is looking for your support. Shane is doing a charity FUN RUN in aid of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (Kilkenny region) on the 20th of November in the Castle Park. Registration is 10 Euro and it's going to a great cause.
It's only when somebody close to you is affected by this disease that you realise how important the carers are to them and how much work they do to help. Currently there are about 48,000 people living with Dementia in Ireland. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland aims to improve the lives of people living with the disease and provides support for their families. There has been a lack of funding in recent years and Shane is hoping help, starting with the Fun Run.
Your support on November 20th would be greatly appreciated!! Well done Shane.
