SENIOR HURLNG CHAMPIONSHIP
The seniors booked themselves into another Championship semi-final after a strong end to the first half of this St. Canices Credit Union Senior Quarter Final helped to secure a well deserved win. The Village did get the better start going 5points to 2points up by the 13 minute mark. They hit a few wides too that could have put them into a comfortable lead while O’loughlins struggled to get their act together. But some strong leadership from the back lines rallied the team and O’Loughlins put a final ten minute of the half that saw Sammy Johnson find the net and Martin Comerford add a fine point to go to the break 1-8 to 0-7 ahead. The game didn’t fire up in the second half but O’Loughlins got the better of the exchanges without ever being too comfortable. The Village did manage to get back to within a score with five minutes remaining but Mark Kelly stepped up to the task to add two quick points to steady the ship and help drive O’Loughlins to a richly deserved five point win over the city rivals. Well done all …great work. Next up is the Semi-Final on Sunday and the lads will have their work cut out as they face The Rower Inistioge. But work they will with the prize being a County Final date on October 30th… Lovely hurling

CENTRA’S DREAM DAY AT CROKE PARK
On Saturday morning a group of our young 'Gaels will left from St. John's Park to a Dream Day at Croke Park courtesy of GAA Partners Centra and thanks to the wondrous skills of u10 star , Eoghan O'Brien. Eoghan topped a skills competition in Nowlan Park hosted by Centra Ireland which included hundreds of players from all clubs from around County Kilkenny.
40 young Gaels and 10 mentors enjoyed some Croke Park hospitality including togging out in the famous Croker Park dressing rooms following in the footsteps of club stars such as Brian Hogan, Andy Comerford and Martin Comerford.. They all ran the tunnel on to the Croker Park pitch for a 2 hour coaching session with Ireland's top inter-county hurlers that included, Richie Hogan Maurice Shanahan, Seamus Callanan, Podge Collins to name but a few.. - after that it was upstairs to the Cusack Suite for some well earned refreshment and lunch- Then to to the entertainment suite where the boys relaxed and enjoyed some fun activities provided by their hosts and finally they boys and mentors were treated to a Stadium Tour of Croke Park - a behind the scenes tour of the stadium that focuses on the history and culture of the games as well as the historical significance of the stadium itself. It was a fantastic trip for any young child and word has a few of the big children were equally as thrilled. Another day our young juveniles will not forget in a hurry. Well done to all at the Juvenile section who continue to work tirelessly to ensure our future stars get every opportunity.

U14s KEEP ON HURLING
While most u14 teams around the county pack up when their Championship run ends the O’Loughlin Gaels mentors and players continue to keep doing what they love best and hurl well into the Autumn. On Saturday last the boys played a challenge game against visiting team Avondale of Co. Wicklow. These sides first met when Avondale hosted O’Loughlins for their successful Feile na Peil campaign in 2015 and the bond formed has seen Avondale visit St. John’s Park for the second time since that great summer. Next year O’Loughlin Gaels will be one of the many Kilkenny Clubs who will host visiting clubs when Feile takes place jointly with Wexford and Carlow in 2017. It’s a great weekend and u14 players for 2017 will have an unforgettable experience. Families of u14s will be informed of events over the coming months so make sure to get involved. You won’t regret it.
1976 REUNION- NOVEMBER 5th.
1976 was an especially successful year for O'Loughlin Gaels GAA. Just in its seventh year in existence O'Loughlin Gaels had successes at u21 (County Hurling and Football Champions), U16 (County Hurling '77 and Football Champions), and u14 (County Féile Champions). This year the club will host a social evening for all those players involved where story's can be racounted, memories revisited and friends remembered. The social event will take place on November the 5th in the club.
NEW GYM TAKING SHAPE
Last January the players got together with their own fund raising initiative The Bull Rush. The monies raised was to fund new gym equipment at the club and soon their wish will be realised. The space has been developed over the last few months and very soon the equipment will be installed for the benefit of all the players. This is a great example of club leadership brought about by the players themselves. Lovely hurling.
NEWPARK REUNION
As a show of gratitude for the hosting of the very successful Newpark residence 60th Reunion, the Reunion Committee presented O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club €500 to be used for it’s Juvenile Section.
