FÉILE 17 at ST JOHN’S PARK
The sun shone on St. John’s Park for one of the best run operations the club has seen since it’s existence. Everyone to a man , and woman!, put in a huge effort to make sure that the thousands of visitors to St. Johns Park had a great weekend. The GAA & Camogie Club’s pooled their resources and encouraged all members to get involved,…and no one had to be asked twice!. Sarsfields GAA of Cork and Westmeaths’ Ratharney Camogie Club arrived on Friday evening for a weekend with their host families from around the Parish. Everyone from O’Loughlins extends a huge appreciation to all the host families who opened their doors to the visiting players continuing that great Feile tradition. That Feile ethos of providing hospitality to our guests for the weekend extended to all visiting clubs also throughout the group games and shield / cup finals played through from 4pm Friday evening to 5pm on Sunday evening. Over 50 teams, their supporters and onlookers ..and the hundreds of club volunteers …had as many cups of tea and sandwiches as they needed thanks to the parents of all juvenile teams in the club who divided the days up on rotation. On Friday evening there was a banquet in the large hall that served hot food to our host teams/mentors as well as the other group teams that played that evening. A feat that was repeated on Saturday evening ..all courtesy of O’Loughlin Gaels GAA. Music on Friday night, Music/Disco on Saturday night…there was parking for everyone, every team that visited were allocated dressing rooms on rotation…it was heavy going but the weekend coordinator Donal Higgins was on hand ensuring all plans were implemented. The month long planning, the coordinating were all appreciated by all who passed through the gates…visitors from all corners of the Country left with nothing but good will for the St. John’s Parish Club. On Sunday evening two of the Feile coordinators were on hand to make presentations to the winning teams and claimed they never saw anything like the hospitality and service provided by the club to it’s visitors since their involvement with Feile going back to 1996. Well done to everyone involved…be very proud of your club. Lovely hurling.
THANK YOU
FÉILE 17 –
Well done to the two teams from St. John’s Parish who represented O’Loughlin Gaels GAA in Camogie and Hurling this weekend. The teams hosted Raharney Camogie and Cork Sarsfields Hurling Club in what was a great weekend for our young players. The experience of national competitive action, new friends, playing in front of large crowds on the best pitches ( Well done Eddie Maher) will stand to these young players for the rest of their playing days. Both teams rose to the occasion and were still playing on Sunday morning competing in semi-finals in thier respective grades which is what everyone wants to do at a Feile weekend.
