CHANGES AT PARISH SCHOOLS
Best wishes to John Cooney who retires from teaching after 34 years at St. John’s School in Ballybought Street. John can be accredited to introducing many young lads to playing hurling and handball in St. John’s Parish and O’Loughlin Gaels GAA. He’s enthusiasm for educating young boys and girls has stood to all that have been lucky enough to come under his radar.
Pupils and staff gathered to celebrate Mr Cooney's 37 years in St. John's Senior School and the School's chamber choir provided the music singing 'Here Comes the Sun', one of Mr. Cooney's favourite songs.
Pupils read from a book of poems and letters written by themselves which was then presented to Mr. Cooney and a slideshow had some of the highlights of Mr Cooney's time at the school.
To prepare for the sunny days ahead Mr. Cooney taught pupils and staff a career favourite, an Australian song 'Aussie BBQ' . Well done Mr. Cooney, best wishes and enjoy your retirement.
