A MODEL ENCOUNTER
It was an Historic Day last Wednesday Feb 15 for GAA in St. John's Parish as The Model School took to the field in hurling action for the very first time. The newly formed Model School Hurling team took on St. John's Senior in the Battle of St. John's Parish. And to add to the intrigue the respective teams are coached by the two Mr. Kearns - Senior full backs and brothers Andy & Eddie Kearns. With these two up against each other it was always going to be an engaging encounter. And by all accounts the maiden encounter between these two sides was nothing short of entertaining. The Model School took to the field at St. John's Park for the very first time under the stewardship of Mr. Kearns (Andy) and Ms. McLoughney (Tipp Camogie) and Mr. Norris. The St. John's Snr side prepared by the other Mr. Kearns(Eddie), Mr.Cooney and Principal, Mr.BrianRoche.
Two matches were played out over the afternoon and with no reporter present we had to rely on the accounts of Messrs. Kearns, Andy & Eddie. According to the Model School Bainisteóir both games were very competitive with the 3rd/4th class teams resulting in a draw. Some top class hurling and skillful action on show to the sizeable support present. He conceded that St. Johns Snr got the better of his charges in the 5th/6th class match and was very proud of the way all the Model School players performed on their first day out. However, according to the Chef d'Equip at St. John's Senior the 5th/6th game was a 'rout' and his lads won 'very easily'. The first 3rd/4th game was a draw alright but you get 'days like that'. (looks like one brother might look to perfect his 'Managers' speak' for the press!!) Of course we're only joking. It was a great afternoon and the results were one draw and a win for the combined forces of St. John's Snr School & Johnswell N.S. New faces were introduced to the game of hurling and credit to all involved as they have vowed to have rematches in a couple of weeks time. Lovely Hurling.
There was no winner of last weeks Club Lotto. The numbers drawn were 8, 10, 13,15 and the bonus number was 12. Next week’s Jackpot prize will be €10,800 so make sure to get a ticket from the usual promotors.
COLLEGES LEINSTER FINAL
CBS Kilkenny successfully negotiated the replay of the Leinster Colleges Semi-Final last week to set up an Final date with rivals St. Kierans College next Sunday. O’Loughlin Gaels will be well represented on the day with 15 from the St. John’s Parish Club involved. Spare a though for the 14 O’Loughlins lads on the CBS panel though..they have to face off the 15th man who plays with St. Kieran’s College - the mighty Eoin O’Shea! Best wishes to all our players and well done on this fine achievement.
Please note also the O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club will be open on Sunday before and after match time for members and friends.
